Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 Overview

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 (구미호뎐 1938) is a sequel to the much-loved fantasy Kdrama of the same named and is directed by Kang Shin-hyo and Jo Nam-hyung. The Kdrama stars Lee Dong-wook, Kim So-yeon, Kim Bum, Ryu Kyung-soo, Kim Young-ji, and Hwang Hee alongside other cast members.

The sequel brings the gumiho Lee Yeon away from his happy ending and back to the year 1938 where he once again comes face to face with his brother Lee Rang and Ryu Hong-joo. Now, he has to find a way to return to the present and to his loved one, but this isn’t something that will come to him easily.

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 takes over tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9:20 PM KST timeslot previously occupied by Pandora Beneath the Paradise.

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 Plot

The synopsis of the show reads: “Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 tells the story where Lee Yeon was dragged back in time to the year 1938 unexpectedly due to certain events that happened after the end of season 1, where he met Lee Rang and Ryu Hong-joo of that era.”

Yeon is prepared to get rid of the Japanese demons before his departure, however, this task isn’t easy. As he prepares to put himself as the bait, Moo-young captures Rang and Yeo-hee, assuring their life in exchange for the treasures in Yeon’s hand. Elsewhere, Hong-joo has other plans for the treasure.

But the last mountain gods of Joseon are not easy to mess with as they are ready to take on the invaders.

The Shinigami Mercenaries arrive in Joseon and are ready to capture demons for Ryuhei Kato’s experiments. Moo-young connects with his brother in the world of the dead through a mirror and is ready to revive him. Meanwhile, Yeon is prepared to leave within a week, unaware that Rang is in deep contemplation.

Rang cannot stop thinking about Moo-young’s words and shows his vulnerability in front of Yeo-hee. She brings back his spirits and is determined to get married to him. Rang then arrives at Myoyeongak and gambles with his lifespan as the bet. However, he loses all this lifespan except for what he has to survive till the end of the day.

Yeon finds out about this and rushes to get back his brother’s life. He calls out the demon for cheating and restarts the game, finally winning at the end. The next day, he reveals this trick to Rang and the two brothers soon make up after he shows Rang the video he sent before his final moments.

Later that day, the mercenaries make their move which makes Yeon determined to meddle in the affairs of 1938.
