Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 Overview

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 (구미호뎐 1938) is a sequel to the much-loved fantasy Kdrama of the same named and is directed by Kang Shin-hyo and Jo Nam-hyung. The Kdrama stars Lee Dong-wook, Kim So-yeon, Kim Bum, Ryu Kyung-soo, Kim Young-ji, and Hwang Hee alongside other cast members.

The sequel brings the gumiho Lee Yeon away from his happy ending and back to the year 1938 where he once again comes face to face with his brother Lee Rang and Ryu Hong-joo. Now, he has to find a way to return to the present and to his loved one, but this isn’t something that will come to him easily.

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 takes over tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9:20 PM KST timeslot previously occupied by Pandora Beneath the Paradise.

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 Plot

The synopsis of the show reads: “Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 tells the story where Lee Yeon was dragged back in time to the year 1938 unexpectedly due to certain events that happened after the end of season 1, where he met Lee Rang and Ryu Hong-joo of that era.”

A world that changes based on the memories of the one held inside brings painful and frustrating memories back for Yeon and Moo-young. However, Hong-joo needs to be saved as soon as possible or else she will become the bride of the Jang San-beom. Meanwhile, Rang has to guard the string in the room while Yeon and Moo-young are made to fight each other.

Moo-young and Yeon come face to face which follows a fierce fight which is put to a stop by Hong-joo who drives her sword right through the two men. Moo-young later saves Yeon with his blood and Yeon is assured that it is the real Moo-young, unaware that he is on a mission that needs his help.

A demon soon enters Myoyeongak which is followed by a series of weird events. Meanwhile, Hong-joo takes her two friends out to spend some quality time as they fall back into the joys of their past.

Later, Eun-ho along with the gisaengs play the Corner Game which invites the demon who then kidnaps Eun-ho. The trio soon arrive back to this news and plays the same game to capture the demon. Moo-young tries to get Hong-joo out of this but fails and they begin the game. This time, it is Hong-joo who is taken away and the demon is found to be Jang San-beom.

Yeon and Moo-young soon get on to finding a way to bring Hong-joo back and are led by an old woman to get help from a stray cat. The two enter the realm of the demon and are surprised by what they see.
