Suchwita Episode 27 Review: SUGA and Jang Yi-jeong Share Warm Tales of Friendship

This week, BTS SUGA sits down with music producer, singer and songwriter Jang Yi-jeong (장이정) who goes by EL CAPITXN. He is well-known for being the producer behind one of Agust D’s most famous songs, Daechwita, as well as collaborating with a slew of other talented artists. He first came to the K-pop scene with the group HISTORY in 2013 with Dreamer and was the group’s main vocalist.

The latest episode of Suchwita (슈취타) or Time to Drink with Suga (신동엽) feels like a cute and captivating discussion between two friends who have known each other forever, which, for the duo, isn’t wrong! It’s warm and funny and everything that you’d expect this talk show to be about. Suchwita has evolved to become an indispensable part of life for BTS ARMYs and for good reason – the happy and light vibe is everything that fans need as they eagerly await the return of their beloved boy band members.

Suchwita Episode 27 Recap

The episode opens with Suga fondly calling his guest one of his closest friends, someone he meets every day and without whom he cannot imagine his music career. After Jang Yi-jeong makes his entry to the set, it is clear that everyone feels the initial awkwardness. However, being a good host, he asks him how long it has been that he has filmed in front of a camera but his response is followed by fits of nervous laughter from the two as they try to get comfortable in a new setting!

After the drinks and food arrive, the setting becomes more chilled and the singer fondly remembers how, during the D-Day concert as he was catching his breath, someone shouted “Min Yoongi, I love you!” and he enquires whether it was him. Yi-jeong laughs and the conversation goes towards the concert, why everyone was crying on and off stage and the song Dear My Friend. Yi-jeong shares a personal and emotional story about their friendship and why he cried during the extremely heartwarming concert.

The conversation then steers towards the guest’s initial days, his debut and his singing career before he moved on to becoming a producer. After telling his friend about how he loved to sing from a very young age, they discuss their debut years and the dry rehearsals that they took part in and acknowledging each other! The BTS singer then asks him about his singing career coming to a pause and the producer discusses in detail how his symptoms began to show and how even though there is nothing wrong with his voice, he is still unable to sing.

The two continue to talk about collaborations including Ddaeng and D-2 (particularly Daechwita) and the producer hilariously drops his microphone while enjoying his food, making him stop his questions as he curiously looks at his friend. They nostalgically talk about the hard work they put in during their initial years and how impactful the music and the concepts were. The famous producer and songwriter talks about being unable to believe how he became who he is now and that Suga had a huge impact on his career. In the end, the producer calls him his father because he brought up EL CAPITXN, making them both giggle.

The two friends further talk about their collaborative efforts and how well they work together after years, although they did have problems when they first started. He further talks about finding his passion in DJing and how, thanks to Suga, he found something new to find joy in as well. Agust D also mentions how his solo tour was a tense and scary time for him since, being his first tour, he had put a lot of pressure on himself. Yi-jeong acknowledges his feelings and adds context to the feelings that they both felt during the tour.

Next, the host asks him how he has changed over the years, to which Yi-jeong mentions that he has grown and matured in the sense that 11 years ago he trusted people entirely and opened up to them but he doesn’t do that anymore after being betrayed by others. He also started to ignore people and mentions that he is grateful for Suga’s friendship because he brought him out of a dark time in his life. They both agree that Jang looks more bright and at ease now.

They then talk about his goals, to which Jang says that he wants to continue working till they are old and wants to create another sensational song. In the end, Suga asks him to sign the whiskey bottle after which Jang Yi-jeong honours him for successfully wrapping up 28 concerts without any setbacks during Agust D “D-Day” Tour and for being a great role mode.

Suchwita Episode 27 Review

The latest episode is just such a warm and sweet time and throughout the 39 minutes, audiences are made aware of how close the two men are to each other. Their love, appreciation and respect for each other is apparent in every conversation. Jang Yi-jeong also seems to be a shy and sweet person, who acknowledges and appreciates his friend’s impact on his life and the journey that they have gone on throughout these years.

All in all, fans won’t be left disappointed and the little tidbits of information, albeit not dramatic or delicious, say a lot about these two people and who they are as people and as artists. It’s definitely an inspiring episode that is full of cute and funny moments.
