-Succession Season 4 Episode 8 Recap Does Contain Spoilers-

The latest episode starts with the tense introduction of the American election polls, with Tom leading the ATN charge (without Logan Roy) for the first time in the media conglomerate’s history. The trio of Roy’s siblings prepare the level best to abide by the conventions and avoid any direct confrontation with the ATN zone. Meanwhile, Greg is forced to take on the loyal assistant role to help Tom deal with the pressure.

As it turns out, Greg confides in Tom and spills the bean on Shiv’s close relationship with Matsson. The duo also gets their hand on coke and helps each other to cope with the situation. Everything gets messier when the Roys decide to take direct command into their own hand and start to break Logan’s rule one by one.

Shiv starts to take on most of the rational decision-making and connects directly with Nate while keeping her best interest in mind. She makes it abundantly clear that Menckel is not winning the race and that they need to keep a clear window for the Democratic candidate. Even though it should have a smooth path of procedure, Roman ventures on a completely different course.

The youngest Roy decides to back Menckel at any cost and counters Shiv on all levels. He even neglects the sensitive ballots, which were taken out of the picture (right after an unprecedented attack), and forms a separate ATN strategy. Roman pulls off an aggressive stand and manipulates the network in the interest of Menckel without thinking about the repercussions.

The situation gets mediated when Kendall enters the picture and refuses to give in to Roman’s line of decision-making. The co-CEO listens to the word of caution from Shiv and supports her viewpoint throughout the episode. However, when he deduces her conflict of interest with Matsson, Kendall Green lits almost everything from Roman’s end.

ATN calls the election in favour of Mencken without the consent of their political expert, Darwin. And lands itself into a frenzy situation that works only in the favour of Roman. Shiv falls apart from the gang and makes it her mission to make them pay for the mistake.

Succession Season 4 Episode 8 Still 2

The episode is a complete political rollercoaster, with Roman as the clear winner (or a possible loser in the future). It perfectly encapsulates the tense environment and works as the final domino piece in the downfall of WayStar Royco. Based on the last few frames of the episode, one can easily guess the final outcome of the call and its after-effects for Roman and the entire gang.

Shiv revealed the pregnancy news to Tom during the worst possible time, and thereby the situation did not make up for an emotional confrontation. All it leads it is more edge in their relationship, with Tom clearly having no idea about the scale of the news.

As the season comes to its semi-finale saga, things are expected to get chaotic and repulsive. Roman has finally come across an evil planner, and it is something to look forward to in the next episode.

  1. You’ve got the alliances wrong. Do you have confused the two presidential candidates and link them with the wrong person. Maybe it was a typo? Or were you doing what Tom and Greg were doing when you wrote this review?
