Strong Girl Nam-soon Episode 1 Recap
The series starts with a fighting battle in Mongolia. The previous year’s winner is challenged by a small girl, Tsegtseg. Just when the crowd puts her down, she starts happily fighting the huge giant, earning the year’s title. We learn that it is the missing daughter of Geum-joo and Bong-go. Apparently, when Bong-go went with his children to Mongolia, sadly he lost Nam-soon.

Nam-soon gets saved by a Mongolian couple, and they take care of her. As they’re unsure of where she is from, they ensure they tell her all the details they remember about her. Nam-soon who is unaware of her name, checks her tiny clothes which she was wearing when she was found. She sees the tag reading “Made in South Korea” and wonders whether she’s from there. While she watches the TV, she hears the song Gangnam Style and remembers that her name is Kang Nam-soon.
She tells her Mongolian parents about her ethnicity and that she will return to South Korea when she grows up. Meanwhile, in Seoul, in the present day, Geum-joo decides to conduct a contest to find the strongest woman, believing her daughter would attend. We also are shown the backstory of Geum-joo and Bong-go. Back when they met, Geum-joo was running a hangover soup shop and with her skills, she earned plenty. To help with her finances, Bong-go worked for her. It is here they both fell in love.

Geum-joo proposed to him and asked him to be a stay-at-home husband to which he endearingly accepted. They both decided to give birth to a baby girl since she wanted her legacy to follow. Geum-joo revealed her insane strength to Bong-go and they made love. Surprisingly the couple gave birth to twins and sadly during a trip, Bong-go lost Nam-soon. After this, the couple divorced.
Now coming back to the contest, Geum-joo finds a girl named Hwa-ja who possesses great strength. She takes her back home and believes she is the missing Nam-soon. Hwa-ja also plays along but Bong-go sternly believes that she isn’t Nam-soon. We soon understand that Hwa-ja is pretending as Nam-soon for some cunning reasons, however, Geum-joo doesn’t listen to anyone and starts pampering her.
Meanwhile, in Mongolia, after the death of Nam-soon’s pet horse, she decides to come to South Korea. In South Korea, the police are informed about a flight incident and they rush to help the passengers. The flight in which Nam-soon is on, starts to lose its control, making the landing a big fail. Nam-soon breaks the door, jumps down, and tries her best to stop the flight from dashing.

On the other hand, Geum-joo tucks Hwa-ja into her bed and completely believes she is her daughter. But when Nam-soon, at the airport, stops the plane, she ignites the women’s connection. Both Geum-joo and her mother Joong-gan, feel the power. Geum-joo realises that Hwa-ja is not Nam-soon because only when someone is using their full power, do the other women of the same descent feel such a connection.
At the airport, Nam-soon stops the flight from crashing and saves the passengers. A cunning man who is behind the chaos, Mr. Ryu Shi-o, spots Nam-soon walking with a happy face, and he smirks before walking away.
Strong Girl Nam-soon Episode 1 Review
The episode was absolutely a winner. From the start to the end, the entire concept seemed fresh and unique. There’s so much mystery loaded right in the first episode that was spiced with a generous amount of humour. The cast can’t be better than this because, in just one episode, all of them conveyed their characters neatly.

The romance that Geum-joo and Bong-go shared cracked me, especially the scene where Geum-ji carries him along with the bed. The writers have ensured that the spin-off doesn’t have intense similarities to the original but rather looks completely different enough for no comparisons. The main male lead is definitely the police officer, Hee-sik, but Ryu Shi-o could also be a potential good guy because we’re yet to know if he is the villain.
