Stars in the Sky: A Hunting Story Review: Riveting and Eye-Opening

Stars in the Sky: A Hunting Story is a 2018 documentary that recently came out on Netflix. The film is directed by Steven Rinella.

The documentary focuses on the lives of hunters in America and gives a very honest look into their complicated relationship with people and the environment. The story delves deep into the history of hunting, how it has evolved over the years, on conservation of wildlife, and has a plethora of interviews both for and against the notion. It’s a look into the emotions and reasons behind why people hunt, and Rinella goes from start to finish.

Rinella and others gives a vivid description of what goes into the hunting process and what comes after it, and it probably isn’t the barbaric action that people come to think of. The documentary also gives a description of the controversies that surround hunting and it’s an honest acknowledgement of why people can look down on the act.

There’s a lot of perspectives to look into in this film. People talk about laws, about conservation, there’s a person who’s a vegan who questions the ethics of the sport, and then there are the hunters who describes their emotions and feelings while out in the wilderness.

Stars in the Sky

Speaking about laws, the film gives a very simple, but in-depth look into the conservation laws of the country. It also speaks about its past and very simply but effectively gives an overview into how it all evolved.

Stars in the Sky is also a brilliantly shot movie. The shots of the American wilderness and the soft background music beautifully go with each other. It’s quite peaceful and breath-taking to look at. The mountains, forests and the animals have been exceptionally captured.
