Spy x Family Episode 17 Review: Loid’s Workplace Inspection

The 8th episode of Spy x Family was definitely everything that an excellent slice-of-life anime should have. Now, without further ado, let us jump right into the review and see how this episode went.

Spy x Family Episode 17 Overview

After the successful first season, it was only natural that we would get a second season for the Forger family. The anime is back with stunning animation, clearly influenced by the triumph of season 1 and a fast-paced storyline that will never cease to amaze the audience.

Furuhashi Kazuhiro directs the anime, and on the other hand, Wit Studio, CloverWorks is in charge of its animation. “SOUVENIR” by BUMP OF CHICKEN is the opening theme, whereas “Shikisai (色彩)” by yama is the ending theme.

In this episode, Anya gets a new assignment from her school, and that is to research her parents’ professions. This would have been great if her parents were normal like others, but that is not the case here.

She has an assassin of a mother and a spy of a father. Thankfully, Anya goes to Loid’s hospital to research his fake profession as a psychiatrist. And to investigate such a thing, she even dons her Sherlock Holmes-inspired outfit, perfect for this mission.

Entering the hospital, she realises how cool and popular her Papa is with everyone. She even asks his colleagues a bunch of questions so that she can have an in-depth understanding of what Loid does in his job. But Anya also includes information about spies in her report that Loid thinks about while explaining psychiatry.

Anya also manages to go on an exciting adventure using the secret passage that Loid built in his office, without his knowledge. This section was adorable and funny. And as usual, the reports by Anya were so dynamic that even Loid was called to the school to clear doubts about his ways of treating a patient, and definitely, it was Anya’s fault.

The next half was pretty simple but still hilarious and effectively showcased the idiocy of Franky. In the second half, Anya pulled off one of the meanest but greatest pranks on him without even intending to.

From her favourite anime, Anya learned about secret codes and made her mother write them for her. She then passed those codes on to neighbours, friends and Franky in the hopes of playing with them by calling them at a specific spot and time.

Obviously, nobody took her seriously, not even Damian or Becky. But Franky somehow got this weird idea that the code must be from a beautiful girl who handed it to Anya to deliver to him. Well, the rest is history, and the outcome is something that you should definitely check out yourself.

Verdict

Spy x Family clearly do not have any bad episodes, at least as of yet. Yes, some days it delivers a great watch, and some days it is good or average. Today’s episode was definitely in the good category as it was not a comedic explosion for me, but it still managed to entertain me. Watch Spy X Family  on Netflix.
