Special Ops Season 2 Ending Explained
The season opens with brilliant scientist Dr Bhargav getting kidnapped from a tech summit while, at the same time, senior R&AW officer Shekhawat is killed in cold blood. Brought in to solve the mystery and possibly save Bhargav, Himmat Singh realises that this is the start of a silent war that has been ongoing between India and other countries.
Himmat’s first step is to learn about Shekhawat’s mission, realising that there’s something there that links the two cases. He talks to Chadhha and Banerjee and learns everything that Shekhawat was looking into – he was following a trail of attacks after the 2014 PMO cyber attack. Shekhawat followed a Chinese student in Gurgaon who was responsible for the attack, which led him to Zhang. However, before he was able to get anything out of him, Virender got Zhang out due to political pressure.
How were Shekhawat and Bhargav connected?
Failing to protect themselves from Chinese cyber attacks, Shekhawat was called in to Project China to get to the bottom of who was after them. Shekhawat found three IP addresses that were primarily affected by the attacks. He, thus, had to get the best brains in the cyber world behind protecting the nation and appointed Bhargav as a result.
Cut to 2019, when China launched a big cyber attack that threatened to destroy Indian nuclear reactors. Bhargav stops the attacks in the nick of time, and Shekhawat puts his sources to work to find who was behind the attack – a Beijing-sponsored cyber group called RedEcho, owned by none other than Zhang!
Realising that Zhang couldn’t be left to his own devices any longer, Shekhawat planned another operation to kill Zhang during his trip to London. He used one of his agents, Abhay, who neutralised the target.
That’s, unfortunately, not the end – three months after Zhang’s death, people associated with the operation started to die. However, not Dr Bhargav; he was abducted, not killed, because he has access to everything, including DRDO, ISRO, HAL, PMO, and more. Bhargav is, basically, the key to India.
Who is Sudheer Awasthi?
Forever a grifter from his childhood, Sudheer Awasthi was a sharp man who would do anything to be on top and change his destiny. He comes into the picture as he used one of his apps, CallzUp, to keep an eye on Indian politicians. He worked with Zhang to do this, but, with Zhang’s death, he is out to take revenge and, according to Himmat, is trying to strike the very core of the finance industry by going after banks, stocks, etc.
However, by his own admission, Sudheer isn’t interested in actually doing the attack. He wants to sell data to China, which will do the attacking, while he makes money on the side.
In the end, Sudheer is killed by Farooq, and they are able to save Bhargav as well.
Who is the mole?
After much investigation, Himmat figures out that Chadhha is the mole. He tells him that his phone was compromised thanks to the Megasus malware through CallzUp, but Himmat cuts him off, telling him that he wasn’t the only person who was a victim of the malware. However, the others didn’t sell their country as a result. In the end, Banerjee shoots Chadhha for his betrayal.
Why does Subramanyam threaten Himmat?
Wanting to get his money out of the bank to save his dying wife, Subramanyam gets to know that one defaulter, Jignesh Dholakia, is the reason why hundreds of people are now sitting penniless since the bank has no money. After his wife dies, Subramanyam goes on a rampage and calls Himmat to catch Dholakia before he flees. However, there is a lot of red tape in the mix, and things aren’t as simple. Still, Himmat puts his agents on Dholakia’s trail.
Subramanyam, however, realises that things are not picking up steam and threatens to blow the place up if they don’t catch Dholakia in 72 hours. Himmat knows that his mentor isn’t kidding around and eventually catches Dholakia and simply drops him off in the Delhi streets for the police to do whatever they want. Satisfied with the outcome, Subramanyam reminisces about his wife, justice now served.
