Sosyal Climbers Review
The plot of the film follows a couple who are pushed into a desperate situation when they are scammed and incur a debt that is not easy to repay. With one property to sell that would help them with this debt, the two put all their effort into fixing up the place. However, they are soon caught by neighbours who assume that they have bought the place. Now, left with no choice, the two begin a scam to get money from the rich, only to soon fall into deeper trouble.
There is no doubt that the plot is something that we’ve seen quite a few times before, and with a dash of something unique, this Filipino movie ensures an entertaining time. For rom-com lovers, this film is surely one that is hard to miss and would do quite well, but even then it isn’t something that would stand out among the many other favourites that already exist. However, what does stand out wonderfully is the chemistry between the main leads that ignites sparks on the screen throughout the film.

What I love about this film is how it shows the vulnerabilities that test one’s relationship. The materialistic wishes of an individual and the harsh truth of life versus the idealistic love that makes your heart flutter is an ongoing debate throughout the film. These topics show up in intriguing moments where one realises the importance of these aspects of life at some crucial moments. This idea alone stands out wonderfully and makes me appreciate this film despite the many other things are are playing out on the screen.
Meanwhile, the performance of the cast isn’t too bad, but it also isn’t the best out there. While the chemistry between the lead couple surely stands out, it doesn’t hide away their little slip-ups in scenes with other cast members. The same goes for the others in the film who sometimes go overboard with their characters.
Altogether, this film surely brings in some interesting topics for discussion and stands out in its own way, however, the plot isn’t the strongest I’ve come across. And addition to this, the ending is a little blurry and we are left wondering what happened after these incidents on which most of the film was based. The shabbiness on this is definitely not appreciated and takes us down right when things are getting interesting.

Summing Up
Sosyal Climbers is an intriguing rom-com that comes with a somewhat unique concept that ends in an even more astounding way. While the film brings its share of love and laughter for the audience, the idealistic ending only adds to the finishing touches of this story. A good enough watch, but not something that is memorable.
Watch Sosyal Climbers on Netflix.
