Something Very Bad is Going to Happen Ending Explained: When Rachel arrives at her fiancé’s remote cabin in the woods, she is met with her future in-laws’ odd behaviour that increasingly gets weirder the more they get close to the wedding. Is it just wedding jitters, or is there something sinister happening?

Excited to start her new life with her fiancé with a quiet and small wedding, Rachel and Nicky decide to get married at his family’s vacation home in the middle of the woods. Excited and a little nervous, things start off on a bad foot when she meets an ominous man at a deserted gas station and then, at the cabin, finds her future mother-in-law aimlessly wandering at night. It doesn’t help that her siblings-in-law all act icy and aloof.

As her feeling of dread grows, she learns about this urban legend in Nicky’s family that once terrorised Jules. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she eventually finds her wedding dress missing and her in-laws act extremely overbearing and force her to wear Victoria’s old dress. Distressed and confused about what’s happening, it comes to a head when, one night, she confronts the odd sound that she has been hearing throughout the day. It turns out to be Boris digging a grave, and she also finds her wedding dress on a straw doll hanging by a noose in the middle of the forest.

It turns out to be a mess and a huge misunderstanding, as it is revealed that Victoria has an aggressive brain tumour and is dying, and the dress fiasco was created by Nicky’s nephew, who wanted to keep the creepy ghost from Jules’s childhood at bay. Things, however, are about to get worse.

What is haunting Rachel?

So it wasn’t Nicky’s family who were murderers; it was actually a curse in her own family that destroyed everything. It all started years ago when the man who was stalking Rachel in the bathroom in episode 1 didn’t get to marry his fiancée after learning about death waiting to kill him if she wasn’t his soulmate. Scared, he stood her up at the altar, which resulted in him being turned into a witness to Marianne’s life as the curse spread to her.

Year after year, people died in her family for not having married their soulmates, until, eventually, it came to her mother. Jules actually witnessed Rachel’s mother’s death and her father cutting her out of her womb, turning it into a horror story to cope with the trauma. Thus, the curse is now on Rachel, and she must figure out if Nicky is her soulmate or not.

Is Nicky her soulmate?

Throughout the series, Rachel tries to figure out whether Nicky is her soulmate or not. Eventually, she does a ritual which is supposed to turn her into his soulmate, and she also talks it out with Nicky about his lies during their meet-cute and about calling her father to the wedding against her wishes. It’s a healing and cathartic moment, followed by Rachel drinking the magic concoction and walking down the aisle.

Unfortunately, when they are about to say “I Do,’ Nicky refuses to marry her and the two fight about the deeper issues in their relationship, including the fact that Nicky actually doesn’t believe the curse. After this devastating revelation for Rachel, she refuses to marry Nicky, resulting in everyone in Nicky’s family slowly dying.

What happens in the end?

In the bloody aftermath, Nicky puts the ring on Rachel’s finger, and she realises in disbelief that their wedding certificate has been signed since they had already said their vows. It results in Rachel dying, because Nicky and Rachel weren’t soulmates, hoping that they can still save the remaining members of Nicky’s bloodline. In a rather surprising twist, Jules doesn’t die, despite wanting to divorce Nellie, indicating that they always were soulmates.

However, in a rather surprising twist, in the morning, Death comes for the Witness as well, and he transfers his curse on Rachel, who comes back to life to take his place. She takes her mother’s necklace from him and then drives off in Ready or Not fashion, happy to have lived through this ordeal, but not before telling Jude to be very careful about whom he marries and promising to be a witness for it.
