Solo Leveling Episode 4 Review No Longer Weak

An anime TV series produced by A-1 Pictures is premiering soon in January 2024. Additionally, there’s a Korean drama adaptation in the works, and a spinoff webtoon called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is scheduled to come out in 2024.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Solo Leveling Episode 4 Review and Recap: New Rank New Powers

The episode begins with Jinwoo fighting with the Lycan barehanded and without much luck. But in this fight, you can notice that he has become much more flexible and strong, as he was able to punch the Lycan right across its face. Sadly, that still does nothing, and out of sheer desperation, he summons his inventory and drags out a weapon, which is a plain sword.

The sword quickly cuts the beast in half and helps Jinwoo level up; he even manages to heal himself pretty fast after this. But he is again attacked by more beasts who face death at his hands.

We get a clear picture of the power system that controls Jinwoo’s life. With the daily quests, he was able to earn 3 points, which he then could use to enhance his individual abilities. But now that he is in actual combat, Jinwoo can not only level up but also get 1 point each on his abilities, amounting to 5 points. This means being in combat does put him at risk, but also it is the easiest way to get stronger.

After understanding this, Jinwoo does his best to wipe out the horde of Lycans that comes after him later and even earns the title of “Wolf Assassin”. But this is only the surface, as the main boss of the dungeon is still a tremendous threat that he must face.

Another interesting fact about his quests is how the names of the threats also change color according to their threat levels to Jinwoo. For example, if a creature is stronger, its name will turn red, if it’s on the same level as Jinwoo, it will be orange, and if Jinwoo is stronger, then the color will be white.

This part was only the beginning of the episode, as the second half was much more electrifying and intense. Jinwoo finally faces his trauma about being weak and decides he has faced enough ridicule and failure in his lifetime. Now, it is time for him to be stronger than ever.

Verdict

Yes, this time, as well, we got a high-octane, action-packed episode that went crazy with the animation. Even the voice actor did a phenomenal job portraying the despair in Jinwoo’s voice while he fought with the dungeon boss. I will definitely wait for the next episode, as things will become more enjoyable from now on.
