Siren’s Kiss Episode 7 Recap

The 7th episode starts with Woo-seok waking up at the hospital, and we learn that it is Seol-ah who found him at the accident spot and admitted him and Kwang-jin. However, Joo-young doesn’t believe that it is a coincidence but thinks that Seol-ah planned the accident. Seol-ah even gives the dashcam of her car for proof. On the other side, at the police station, the cops rule out that Eun-hyuk might not be the accomplice of Seol-ah, but someone else.

After Woo-seok wakes up, Joo-young has a conversation with him about Seol-ah. Seol-ah overhears and misunderstands that Woo-seok doesn’t trust her, but when she walks away, the conversation he has with Joo-young clearly shows he finds Seol-ah innocent. Timeskip, it is Seol-ah’s birthday, and she receives a bouquet with a type of flower that Su-ho always gifts her. She also finds a phone in the flowers and panics. Flashbacks show how nasty Su-ho was to Seol-ah, often abusing her verbally.

On the phone, she finds a video of Su-ho stating that if he dies, she should remember it is because of her. With more intel, Woo-seok finds that Jun-beom worked with Su-ho in Syria before the latter died in the war. The cops believe that either Jun-beom or Sook-ji must be the real criminal. Later that evening, as Seol-ah sits in silence at her apartment, the doorbell rings. Outside stands Woo-seok with flowers, saying they’re still pretending to be a couple. Hence, she hugs him, and we notice someone watching them both.

Inside her place, she reveals the flowers, and to her panic, Woo-seok states he wants to go to the extreme of getting insurance in his name. Seol-ah panics and pleads with him to stop, and this is when he reveals the story of his younger sister’s death. As the two share their pain, they kiss. Woo-seok then gets a call from Young-soo, who tells him that Kwang-jin has woken up. Woo-seok leaves to meet him, but we see Seol-ah making a call to someone.

After this, a suspicious man goes to the hospital and injects a drug into Kwang-jin’s medicine. Thankfully, Woo-seok arrives on time, but the man escapes. We then see Young-soo getting up from the bed, meaning he was pretending to be Kwang-jin and the drug wasn’t actually inserted. Woo-seok then finds the anonymous man’s coat with the medicine bottle in it, since he rushed out of the hospital, throwing away all the disguise items.

With the handprints in the coat and the bottle, the cops find out who he is. Meanwhile, Woo-seok asks Kwang-jin about Jun-beom, and he tells the latter couldn’t have killed Su-ho, for they were like siblings. He also mentions that Jun-beom lost a part of himself when Su-ho died. This makes Woo-seok wonder whether Jun-beom is taking revenge on Seol-ah, thinking that she’s behind Su-ho’s death.

The following day, Seol-ah and Woo-seok visit the columbarium to pay respect to the late Su-ho. Over there, she shows the video of Su-ho and tells that when they used to be a couple, they often fought and he threatened her by saying he would die. Eventually, out of anger, when she asked him to do that, he disappeared. Woo-seok comforts Seol-ah and tells her it’s not her fault.

The next day, they plan to catch Jun-beom with evidence. Hence, a camera is planted in Seol-ah’s bag, and she visits Jun-beom’s office to record him. From the car, both Woo-seok and his hacker friend watch what’s going on. They also find one piece of evidence showing Jun-beom in his car at the crime spot.

The tension in this episode was steady from the start to the end. The story is crafted well around Seol-ah, and the characters around her also lift up the core content: who is the villain? Sometimes it seems like she’s the bad person, but there are many moments that say otherwise. The story progression feels good, given that it maintains the mystery. The thriller elements and personal intimate moments make this episode feel lively. We didn’t know we needed the kiss until we saw it!

The emotional depth is clear in this episode as we see a side of Su-ho, his relationship with Seol-ah, which was tainted, Jun-beom’s love for the late Su-ho and Woo-seok’s trust in Seol-ah. Woo-seok’s opening about his sister shows he is still in the phase of regret, and it will be quenched only if he helps out Seol-ah.
