Silo Season 3 Episode 9 Review: There are TV series episodes that you watch, process and move on from, but there is something uniquely creative about episodes like Silo Season 3 Episode 9 where the credits roll, and you just sit there wondering if the writers genuinely expect you to function normally until next week.
Silo Season 3 Episode 9 Review on X
Titled “Farewell”, the ninth episode of Silo Season 3 appears to have done exactly what a penultimate episode should do: blow everything open, leave several emotional wounds behind and make the wait for the finale feel offensive.
The reactions on X (formerly Twitter) were unsurprisingly somewhere between jaw-dropping existential despair and absolute disbelief.
“This is Peak Silo”
A user on X, @FlicksandChill, mentioned without hesitation where Episode 9 ranks, and the reaction was basically a five-alarm fire.
The post went on to call it an “insane penultimate episode” and quite confidently, “Easily the best episode of the season. This is Peak Silo.” That pretty much captured the mood because Silo has always been good at taking a seemingly straightforward mystery and peeling it back until the answer becomes more dangerous than the question.
Silo Season 3 Episode 9 apparently decided to take up that philosophy and run with it.
Everyone is Still Processing the Ending
If there was one thing X could absolutely agree on, it was that the ending was a lot. X user @thepedrowx was left “stunned” by the ending and gave Apple TV+ its due credit for consistently delivering with its shows.
Another user, @cinhbra, kept it simple but conveyed her surprise for the episode.
@DadNeedsToTalk had a similar reaction, admitting that their jaw dropped despite knowing that something was coming.
The Stenson Revelation Has Everyone Questioning Everything
One of the biggest talking points from the episode was the revelation surrounding Stenson and the reason behind the Silos. User @FlicksandChill’s reaction immediately turned to the orchestration of the apocalypse.
That is the kind of Silo revelation that makes you mentally scroll through everything you have watched before and go, “wait, so what does that mean now?”
Another user, @mehdi_keraghel, focused on the episode’s explanation of the catastrophe, sharing lines about a “controlled explosion” and wrote, “The bombs were to get people to move, to make them afraid.”
Both reactions capture the same unsettling idea: the apocalypse we have been trying to understand may have been far more calculated than it appeared, and if that is the rabbit hole the show is taking us down, good luck getting anyone to stop theorising the finale already.
Helen and Daniel Broke Hearts
The spectacle and mystery are one thing, while the emotional damage is another. X user @jonbvs was particularly devastated by where things appear to have landed for Helen and Daniel, describing the possibility of Helen being forced to spend the rest of her life inside a silo raising their son alone as pure despair.
That is the cruel thing about Silo. Even when the show is throwing big questions at us, it keeps taking everything back to individual people. Helen and Daniel’s separation therefore does not just feel like another plot development but is personal.
Another user, @ashbanner82, also picked up on the separation, saying they knew something major was coming with the split up.
“That Could Have Been the Season Finale”
Perhaps the most telling reaction came from X user @ChrisRobinsonNJ: “That could’ve been the season finale, and it wasn’t. What the hell is going to happen next week?”
That is the problem with Episode 9: a penultimate episode should leave you wanting more, but Silo has apparently left the viewers wondering whether the actual finale is going to top what they watched. User @DadNeedsToTalk even called the episode one of the season’s strongest while @FlicksandChill crowned it the best of the season.
User @DouglasAll summed up the experience as being left stunned by the episode.
X is Officially Not Emotionally Prepared For the Finale
There is a particular kind of television fandom panic that happens when a show drops its penultimate episode, and suddenly everyone realises there is only one episode left to explain everything.
Silo Season 3 has apparently arrived at that point. The theories are multiplying; the questions around the Silos are getting darker; Helen and Daniel’s situation is devastating. Viewers are not angry about having questions; they are angry that they have to wait seven days for answers, it seems.
After Silo Season 3 Episode 9, X seems to have reached a collective conclusion that Silo is operating at its best when it makes you uncomfortable, gives you just enough information to think that you have figured something out, and just at the moment, casually pulls the floor from under you.
According to the reactions on X, “Farewell’ did not just set up the finale; it has held viewers as emotional hostages until next week.
