Loved Candy? Watch More Such True Crime Dramas to Blow Away Your Minds!

Hulu’s latest true-crime series Candy has shocked and shattered viewers with its story and, impressed everyone with the convincing performances put forward by actors. Created by Nick Antosca and Robin Veith, the miniseries features Jessica Biel in the titular role along with Melanie Lynskey as Betty Gore, Pablo Schreiber as Allan Gore, Justin Timberlake as Sheriff Steve Deffibaugh and Timothy Simons as Pat Montgomery.

This miniseries recounts the murder of Betty Gore and, the subsequent trial where Candy Montgomery was taken to trial for being the killer. The outcome of this case and the final verdict that acquitted Montgomery of all charges created a sensation worldwide and, is still seen as a critical case study when studying true crime. In fact, HBO Max is also set to adapt this story to screen in form of a drama series titled Love and Death, which will star Marvel’s Elizabeth Olsen as Candy. The Staircase

This ongoing true-crime drama on HBO Max tackles the complex and sensational case of Michael Peterson’s trial. The story of the Petersons was brought into the light when Kathaleen Peterson, wife of Michael Peterson was found dead at the bottom of the staircases and the incident was not considered an accident as stated by Michael Peterson but, a murder orchestrated by him. The trial took place over years with Michael’s constant appeal and this miniseries shows it all. Based on the 2004 true-crime docuseries of the same name created by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, a new episode releases every Thursday on HBO Max.

The Girl from Plainville

Before Candy made Hulu famous for crime dramas, it was The Girl from Plainville that set out the path. The infamous “texting suicide case” which marked the death of Conrad ‘coco’ Roy through his girlfriend, Michelle Carter’s constant texts is one unique case that has never been seen before. The miniseries, currently streaming on Hulu, explores the aspects of Roy and Carter’s relationship, the trial and the final verdict that shocked everyone.

When They See Us

One of the best true crime dramas out there, When They See Us is a story that will move you, hurt you, and make you cry but, also inspire you by the end. Created, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVerna, this miniseries takes us through the 1989 Central Park jogger case where five Black and Latino male suspects were falsely accused and then prosecuted on charges related to the rape and assault of a white woman. The series is present on Netflix and explores the lives and families of the five marked men.

American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson

Did O.J do it? Well, that is a question that is still being asked for the trial of The People of the State of California v. Orenthal James Simpson is to date one of the most talked about trials ever. Based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson, the first season of the FX true crime anthology is breathtakingly good and a must-watch!

Landscapers

It is rare to see comedy charm through a true-crime drama and, that is exactly where landscapers step in to change that outlook. A black comedy-drama, this miniseries recounts the 1998 murders of William and Patricia Wycherley, where we get to know the story of Susan and Christopher Edwards, the couple behind the murders and their other decades-old crimes. Olivia Colman and David Thewlis star as the murderers in this miniseries and it is presently available on HBO Max.
