Sex Life is the latest Netflix show to get cancelled after two successful seasons. Inspired by the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton, the steamy show is created by Stacy Rukeyser. It follows the story of married housewife Billie Connelly, who starts to fantasize about her ex-boyfriend when her married life starts to lose its spark. Colliding her present with the past, the foundation of her marriage starts to dwindle when the ex-boyfriend makes a return.
The cast of the series includes Sarah Shahi as Billie Connelly, Mike Vogel as Cooper Connelly, Adam Demos as Brad Simon, Margaret Odette as Sasha Snow, Cleo Anthony as Kam, Darius Homayoun as Majid, Jonathan Sadowski as Devon, Meghan Heffern as Caroline, Amber Goldfarb as Trina, Hannah Galway as Emily, Li Jun Li as Francesca, Wallis Day as Gigi, Dylan Bruce as Spencer and Craig Bierko as Mick.
Released in 2021, in the first season, despite her evident desire for Brad, Billie attempts to be happy as a suburban mother of two, she remains desperate for the freedom she enjoyed as a single and sexually fulfilled psychology Ph.D student in New York City. But in the final scenes, she does go back to Brad’s apartment & even Cooper is aware of her infidelity.

While in the second season that was released earlier this year, we see Billie finally getting what she desires, as she walks down the aisle for the second time – towards Brad. She even whispers that she is pregnant with his kid.
Why Did Sex Life Season 3 Got Cancelled?
While the creator of the show didn’t want it to be an ultimate end, as the Netflix representative told Deadline that it was a ‘natural end to the show’. Stacy Rukeyser had earlier said that she intends to further explore if Billie will be truly happy with Brad or not.
She is pregnant again and will that pregnancy change her relationship like it did in her marriage with Cooper, or they will remain a passionate couple? However, that remains an unanswered question as Billie will now have a forever happy ever after.

The controversy erupted when the lead actress Sarah Shahi who appeared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast a few days prior to the official cancellation announcement, said that she was definitely not happy with the latest season. She commented that she didn’t feel the same support as Season 1 and maybe revealing all that might lead to the end of her working relationship with Netflix.
One of the main issues highlighted by her was that Adam Demos was not given as much screen time as her, despite being a main character. Also, she found some parts of the script challenging and hard to get behind. Whether it was her comments that led to the show’s not getting the green light or it was already decided, nonetheless, it is sad news for the viewers of the show.
All seasons of Sex/Life are currently streaming on Netflix.

I think there is way more storylines that can be worked with!
Shahi had an ABC gig lined up for the end of the year, so she could be honest about how she felt about Season 2… She was angry that Demos did not have more air time. I would have liked to see another season. Oh well, that’s how the cookie crumbles in Hollywood. You should not trash the hand that feeds you.
Would be interesting and more real to life to explore how their marriage worked out and see how the happily ever after plays out in a real marriage. But can see why Netflix felt it was over. I kind of like to think of them as happy every after.
Season 3 I thought should be produced. I do not believe for a minute that a marriage between Billy and Brad would work out because of Brad’s history. I also believe that Billy’s education should have helped her to see that Brad was very damaged and not someone that she should marry.
