Easing our lonely and rainy blues, MAMAMOO+ has dropped the Save Me MV ahead of their upcoming first mini album. Debuting as a duo and members of the first subunit of the RBW label’s K-pop girl group, Moonbyul and Solar’s latest venture is gracefully turning headsin embrace of the heart-touching vocals of the pair, that seamlessly blend with each other.
Emerging as a vocally lovelorn tune, the video captures the two members wistfully singing along, but at a distance from each other. Sitting beside raindrop-embellished windowpanes or glass doors, they unfold a melancholic sound of music that touches the listener’s heart despite the video not being supported by English subtitles. Their expressive tones are enough to convey the loneliness felt deep within. Solar’s honeyed vocals fit like a glove with the Moonbyul’s raspy voice that eventually breaks out into a heartbreaking rap verse.

Moonbyul and ONEWE’s GIUK have been credited as the lyricists and composers of the angst-riddden mid-tempo melody. The forthcoming album of the group is also set to divulge the saddening sentiments related to getting over one’s past love, and a similar vibe has been conveyed in their pre-release drop. The song in itself doesn’t rely on any grandiose elements or diversions, rather it largely falls back on Moonbyul and Solar’s synchronised vocal duet evoking poignantly painful responses among the audience. Corresponding to the R&B, Soul and Urban music genres, its music video’s colour palette also rides on the simplicity of monochrome themes.
Speaking of the themes of moving on from the embrace of one’s past love, the song directly addresses the issue of missing the shelter provided by the beloved’s loving presence. But as that sense of safety has passed away, the expression changes to talk of the dull emptiness, and the urge of wanting to be saved again. With the lover’s figure having disappeared from the singer’s life, the duo compare that lack of warm feeling in their life with a Seoul that is devoid of any season, resembling a healthy change. They blame their fate for cursing them with this loneliness.
Solar and Moonbyul have also released a single album before working on their newest project. Releasing in March 2023, their debut single EP ACT 1, SCENE 1 comprised of three songs – GGBB, Chico Malo and LLL. They’ve also partnered with BIG NAUGHTY in 2022 for the song Better, and also contributed to the The Queens OST this year for a track titled Super Gap.
