Sara: Woman in the Shadows Ending Explained
The series opens with Sara, a former intelligence officer, learning about his son Giorgio’s death and immediately jumping into figuring out what could have happened to him. Sara did not have a relationship with her son, having left him in his childhood in his father’s care. She meets up with the officers in charge of the investigation, steals Giorgio’s SIM card from his phone, and goes to meet her son’s girlfriend to learn some things about Giorgio’s life and his whereabouts. She later meets Teresa, a former colleague and friend, and asks her for help to uncover who was texting her son the night he was killed.
Is Giorgio Murdered or Was it Suicide?
Her relentless investigation uncovers a shocking truth – the respected city doctor, Ludovico Terzani, was the one behind the accident. Giorgio was having an affair with someone Terzani was interested and he orchestrated his murder as a tragic accident, but was not ready to have a grieving spy on his back. As it turns out, the man who was crying to Sara at the beginning of the episode, the one who suddenly ran over Giorgio, is Ludovico Terzan, and he murdered him because, well, he wanted to have an affair with his own patient and wanted Giorgio out of the picture.

Does Sara Get Her Revenge?
Although Sara realises early on about Terzani’s involvement in Giorgio’s death, she is unable to do anything about it because of the lack of proof. However, in the end, she takes matters into her own hands and kills Terzani herself, getting the justice that Giorgio deserves, and the law might be unable to deliver.
What Was the Biggest Narrative?
There are bigger issues at play in Sara: Woman in the Shadows, which works towards a larger discussion surrounding vigilantism. Sara’s friend Teresa is also left to exact revenge on her own after mobster Enrico Vigilante kills her husband, but the justice system failed to do anything about it. With politics and corruption eating away at every sphere of the justice system, Teresa had no option but to take her revenge as well.
The series mainly focuses on institutional corruption, and thus Sergio Minucci, Teresa’s husband’s death becomes a main point of the show as well. Sergio was working for corrupt politician Tarallo, who was being used by Vigilante. When Sergio learnt about all the corruption in the party, especially Vigilante trying to forcefully incite anti-immigrant sentiments to sway voters, he decided to expose the truth, which resulted in Vigilante ordering a hit on him.

Why Did Teresa Kill Vigilante Instead of Letting the System Handle Him?
Going back to Sara’s past, her mentor and lover, Massimiliano, had uncovered a plot by Vigilante to do an attack in Florence, but it was not taken seriously by his superiors, who were all working for Vigilante. In the aftermath of the attack, Massimiliano blamed himself for everything, and Teresa, in a bid to avoid the past from repeating itself, tracked Vigilante down to a park and murdered him during his usual morning run.
Does Tarallo Face Justice?

The politician Tarallo, who has been aiding and abetting Vigilante from the beginning, is murdered in an assassination orchestrated by Vigilante himself after he goes against his promise of building a nuclear power plant in Campania. However, journalist Edoardo Belliti, who was working with Sergio to expose the politician, survives Vigilante’s assassination attempt and eventually releases all the proof necessary to bring the truth to the public. It brings everything full circle.
With the corruption under control… for now… Sara decides to channel her attention to Giorgio’s newborn son and tries to undo the wrong that he did to her own son.
