Raazi

Meghna Gulzar’s action spy drama has Alia Bhatt leading the film. The tale is set in 1971 when the war between India and Pakistan was holding the rails of the future. In this film adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, we see a true story about how a 20-year-old Kashmiri girl acts as an instrument in the middle of the war. Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani

Swades: We, the People

A long yet worth-it film, Swades stars Shah Rukh Khan in one of his best roles ever and, is directed by the legendary Ashutosh Gowariker. The film tracks the journey of Mohan, an Indian expatriate employed with NASA who travels to his nation in an attempt to reconnect with his beloved nanny, Kaveri. Shershaah

A film by Vishnu Varadhan, Shershaah stars Sidharth Malhotra in the title role. The film recounts the story of a PVC awardee brave Indian soldier- Capt. Vikram Batra, the man who shot to fame to become a household name during the 1999 Kargil War. Filled with courage and bravery, the film is a testimony of how India won the Kargil War in 1999. Jai Bhim

Paying tribute to B.R. Ambedkar with the slogan his followers use as the movie title, this T. J. Gnanavel film stars actor Suriya in the central role. It tells the story of a pregnant woman from the tribal community, in search of her missing husband who disappeared from police custody and, how she seeks the help of a lawyer who delivers her with the justice she deserves. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video in multiple languages.

Rang De Basanti

The list will never be complete without Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s directorial project Rang De Basanti, which features an ensemble cast of Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Cyrus Sahukar, Kunal Kapoor and Alice Patten. The story is about how an English filmmaker casts a group of student actors in her documentary about the Indian revolution and, how it triggers and impacts them all. You can watch it now on Netflix.
