Reacher is back with its Season 4, and Alan Ritchson has basically undergone a major physical transformation to match the book accuracy.
Prime Video’s action thriller returned on August 12 with its fourth season, bringing Jack Reacher back for another mystery, mess and presumably another list of people who should think before picking a fight with him.
The early Reacher Season 4 Reviews on X seem positive but not without a pinch of hesitation. While some call Season 4 another winning entry and praise its action, mystery and emotional stakes, others wonder if the show is a tested formula which appears familiar.
Reacher Season 4: Alan Ritchson Owns the Reacher Role
If one thing most users agree on, it is that Alan Ritchson remains extremely difficult to imagine as anyone other than Jack Reacher
X user @JournoAayu gives Reacher Season 4 a 9/10, praising the show for getting “better and more brutal with each passing instalment.” The review highlights Ritchson’s “massive presence” and argues that the season gives him more work, both emotionally and physically.
The highlighted distinction plays a significant role because, even though Reacher Season 4 is an action show, there are fights, stunts, and people making unfortunate decisions to understand a giant man. However, Reacher Season 4 gives Jack Reacher a chance to be more than a human equivalent of a wrecking ball.
According to the same user, the fight sequence is sharper, the stunts are bigger, and the supporting cast gets more room to shine. The result for them is a season that manages to keep familiar Reacher comfort while giving the character and story room to grow.
Another user, @fandad, sums up Ritchson’s casting bluntly, saying, “Alan Ritchson was born to play this role.” The user also mentions tat new audience can jump in, as each Reacher Season is a standalone story.
The Reacher Formula
Something is reassuring about Reacher not becoming what it is not; the show has a formula and knows it well: Mystery – Danger – Investigation – Underestimation followed by increasingly violent confrontations. The cycle repeats.
X user @NickZednik reacts, calling it “another winning adaptation,” praising the show for “high-stakes action, a compelling mystery, and emotional stakes” before pointing out that if the formula is not broken, there is no reason to fix it.
User @cinefiedcom’s review describes Season 4 as continuing to deliver what Reacher has brought from the beginning: an extraordinary hero caught up in a complex mystery. A simple proposition but one the show has become very good at selling.
Is Reacher Season 4 Feeling Familiar?
While overall response remains positive, there is a small but important counterargument, which is how much can Reacher repeat its tested formula before the familiarity becomes a repetition?
@MattMitovich’s review title puts the criticism rather neatly: “Brutal Beatdowns, But a Bit Repetitious.”
And @totalfilm is similarly positive without handing the season a perfect score. Total Film gave Season 4 3.5/5, praising its impressive set pieces and singling out Sydelle Noel’s performance, but noting that it does not quite reach the level of Seasons 1 and 3.
This is perhaps the big elephant in the room for Reacher season 4.
Some Viewers Call it a ‘Must-Watch’
For @JournoAayu, that balance seems to have worked. Their 9/10 review calls Season 4 an “absolute must-watch action-thriller for 2026,” particularly praising the bigger set pieces and the show’s ability to keep the tension moving.
X User @JoshuaMPatton brings another interesting piece into the conversation by pointing out that Season 4 is based on one of the books that originally made him fall in love with the Jack Reacher character before the television series existed. This gives the season a slightly different appeal for longtime fans of Lee Child’s novels.
Four Seasons, Same Consistency
Then there is X user @movieweb, which highlighted the season’s early 100% Rotten Tomatoes score based on nine reviews at the time of its August 11 post, comparing it with the show’s previous openings: 92% for Season 1 and 98% for both Seasons 2 and 3.
The early critical reception comes with the context that nine reviews are a small sample, but the fact that the franchise has reached its fourth season and has an established identity that people stick to. This can even become a weakness if the content is repetitive, but a strength if the audience knows what they would get and still gets excited for it.
Is Reacher Worth the Hype?
Reacher Season 4 appears to deliver big action, mystery, bigger stunts, fights and Alan Ritchson making it look natural.
There is perhaps no reinvention of sorts. For now, X seems happy with the result, largely while everyone awaits the next episodes and what Reacher Season 4 has in store.
