Ranma ½ 2024 Episode 2 Review Ranma Gets An Unexpected Admirer

Ranma ½ 2024 Episode 1 Recap

The story begins with Soun, a martial arts Dojo master, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Ranma, the son of his old friend and a skilled martial artist. Soun’s plan is to marry off one of his three daughters to Ranma and pass the Dojo on to them. The daughters—Kasumi, the gentle eldest, Nabiki, the mischievous middle sister, and Akane, the tomboy who despises men—have different reactions to the arrangement. Some are open to the idea, while others strongly oppose it.

However, their expectations are completely upended when, instead of a son, a girl arrives at the Dojo. This surprising twist initially brings relief to Akane, who thinks she’s off the hook for marriage. What she doesn’t realize is that Ranma is actually a boy who has been cursed, transforming into a girl whenever he comes into contact with water.

When the secret gets disclosed, the other girls completely revoke their claim as Ranma’s potential marriage partner. Sadly, Akane had to bear the burden as she in general hated men from the beginning. This sets the stage for a series of chaotic and humorous events as the characters navigate the bizarre situation.

Ranma ½ 2024 Episode 2 Review Ranma Gets An Unexpected Admirer

This episode was definitely very fun to watch as we are slowly discovering more characters in the show. Here, it is finally the day for Ranma to go to school along with his newly imposed fiance, Akane. The couple themselves do not like each other at all, but they can’t really do anything because their parents have forcefully decided that they are going to get married. Hence, frequent bickering and petty fights between these two, who just cannot get along, become normal. However, they faced a bigger problem when they finally reached school.

School life for Akane is a battleground, to say the least. As a pretty and popular girl, it is natural that Akane gets pursued by men all the time. But what is not normal is all these men trying to attack her and defeat her to finally make her go out with them. And the most incorrigible amongst all is definitely Tatewaki Senpai, the star of the kendo club who made it a rule for every boy to be able to defeat Akane first before asking her out.

He himself has been trying to defeat Akane but, till now, has not managed to do so. Perhaps he is also the reason Akane is so against being in a relationship with a boy. Still, there is one man who does not apply in this category. Ranma and we, the audience, meet Dr Tofu, a gentle-looking chiropractor. Apparently, he has always been looking after Akane, and she clearly harbours feelings for him.

But the most interesting part of this episode is when Ranma accidentally becomes a woman in the school, and hell breaks loose. How he manages to survive the school and Tatewaki Senpai, who, after learning about Ranma’s engagement to Akane, is actively trying to hunt him down, is something that you must see. Other than that, what you definitely cannot expect is the sudden admirer that Ranma gets for himself.

Verdict

This anime is filled with nostalgic charm. The gags and the humour remind you of the shows that we all have seen growing up, and it is a refreshing experience as we’re getting something that is a bit different from all the other shows of this season. The simplicity of this show makes it endearing and unique, and personally, I love that kind of vibe.
