Pulse Review
There isn’t a dearth of medical dramas on Netflix and other streaming services. Full of anticipation and thrill, and the obvious romance bursting at the seams of the medical staff who go through trauma together under the same roof, these dramas are always an adventure and a half. Netflix’s latest release is Pulse, full of well-known faces and a story that is much like other dramas but still juicy enough to be an easy binge.
Pulse showcases a bunch of doctors in the trauma ward doing doctor things and going through the everyday motions of life. There are a few twists and turns that keep you on the edge, and that’s about it. Which is great if you’re looking for something breezy and juicy at the same time that won’t hurt your brain much. The series goes how almost every other medical dramas go — the energy of performing surgery, mostly winning, sometimes failing, and almost everyone flirting and/or having sex with one another. The good-looking doctors make you believe that going to hospitals isn’t the worst fate in life and that you can start a whirlwind romance with a doctor with a British accent.

Well, at least that’s the vibe Pulse is going for. It’s a story we have watched many times before. The only thing of intrigue in the series is Danny and Xander’s relationship which we see in flashbacks and look forward to solving. Xander faces a sexual harassment complaint after being in a relationship with him for around a year and we try to understand, piece by piece, why that is. It’s interesting to understand the nuances, but mostly it’s a little appalling because it’s difficult to understand her motivations, at first anyway. Another thing is her family relationship, which is all sorts of messed up. Fans of insane dramas will find it intriguing to watch because it makes for a great time pass.
I think the only reason the series worked as well as it did is because it is acted quite well. Willa Fitzgerald is fantastic as Danny and very believable in her role. She shares a great chemistry with Colin Woodell and it’s interesting to watch it unfold, in a way. The others are equally great and make this series worthwhile.
Final Thoughts

Pulse makes for a great binge. It’s not memorable or particularly new but it’s fun to watch the different stories unfold in the tense trauma ward, which is usually the case for these medical dramas. It’s very hard to not find yourself attracted to the chaos and the messiness that exists.
