Pink Venom: BLACKPINK’s New Song Creates New Records on YouTube and Spotify, Deets Inside

On August 19, BLACKPINK released their eagerly awaited group track, Pink Venom. It was all the BLINKs desired and more, not to mention it had fierce energy coupled with the distinctive sound and vibrant attitude. With the release of this new track, it became the most-watched music video on YouTube this year thus far in the first 24 hours. On August 20, shortly after its debut, the music video for the song on YouTube surpassed 100 million views.

With 7,937,046 streams, the song also debuted at the top of Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart. This marks the first time a female K-Pop artist’s song has topped this chart. After going up on YouTube at midnight ET on Friday, the K-pop powerhouse group’s dance-driven video for the girl-power anthem garnered an astonishing 86.2 million views in only 24 hours (1 p.m. KST)

BLACKPINK’S supporters, popularly known as Blinks, awarded the music video 6 million likes on YouTube during its initial window of availability. In terms of all-time YouTube 24-hour views, Pink Venom is now ranked No. 4, only behind the girl group’s own How You Like That, which attained 86.3 million views in June 2020.

The top two positions are still held by BTS, who generated 101.1 million views for Dynamite in 2020 and 108.2 million for Butter in the first 24 hours of last year. In August 2020, the girl band’s Ice Cream, which stars Selena Gomez, is in fifth place with 79.0 million views.

The #PinkVenomChallenge on YouTube Shorts, which invited viewers to join by inventing and sharing dance movements from the music video using the short-form video feature, probably increased the number of views for the music video.

BLACKPINK’S upcoming album Born Pink, which will be published on September 16th, has the pre-release single Pink Venom, in which a geomungo, a customary Korean stringed instrument, may be heard in the song’s opening bars. One direct line from the song is, “Now it’s tonight, I’m a deadly flower / After sucking your soul,” and it is followed by a nod to Taylor Swift, “Look what you made us do.”

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, the four members of the girl group will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28. They will begin their Born Pink world tour this fall, which will go from October 15 to June 21, 2023.
