When is Park Ji-hoon’s Love Song for Illusion Kdrama Releasing? Is It Based on a Webtoon?

K-pop star and actor Park Ji-hoon blew up all expectations, in the best way possible, with his performance in the 2022 action series, Weak Hero Class 1. Since then, his fans have only been patiently waiting for his acting comeback, and their prayers have been answered as the new year will be opening the gates to his new small-screen return with Love Song for Illusion Kdrama (환상연가). The year 2023 was high on webtoon adaptations, and it looks like there’s no way of breaking that momentum anytime soon, as the upcoming historical fantasy romance drama show too is based on the Naver webtoon authored by Vanziun.

Also known as Fantasy Sonata, the series set to release in 2024 has been written by Yoon Kyung-ah and directed by Lee Jung-seop. Along with this forthcoming release, Jihoon has also been confirmed to star in the green-lit sequel of the aforementioned title, Weak Hero Class Season 2, with stunning actors like Ryeoun, Bae Na-ra, Lee Min-jae, Choi Min-young and others. As for now, let’s redirect our attention back to the matter at hand as the period romance series’ premiere is upon us. Here’s what we know about Park’s brand new drama so far!

Love Song for Illusion Kdrama Plot

As the royal descendant of the fallen Yeon dynasty, Yeon Wol turns into an assassin to avenge her family. Once her mission to assassinate the king goes sideways, she steps foots into a trap, causing her memory to be lost. On waking up with no memory of her identity, she finds herself appointed as the crown prince’s concubine.

The crown prince in question has two conflicting personalities, almost making it seem as if two souls are trapped in a single man’s body. as Sajo Hyun, Jihoon’s character is an intellectual individual with an artistic touch that he applies as a fashion designer, further hiding his royal persona as the crown prince. On the other hand, Ak-hee, his flip personality is that of a charming, yet wounded man, who’s been cursed to be subjected to excruciating pain when he touched anyone.

Love Song for Illusion Cast

The main cast of the KBS show includes Park Ji-hoon as a man with two conflicting personalities, thereby granting the actor a dual role of sorts. He’ll be playing the roles of Sajo Hyun and Ak-hee. Opposite him, Hong Ye-ji will be seen as Yeon Wol/Consort Eun-hyo. Hwang Hee as Sajo Yung, Ji Woo as Crown Princess Geum-hwa, Kim Tae-woo as Sajo Seung, Woo Hee-jin as Consort Cheong-myung, Kang Shin-il as Jin Mu-dal, and Hwang Seok-jeong as Chung-ta will also be donning pivotal personas in the lead.

Love Song for Illusion Release Date and Trailer

The live-action Korean adaptation of Vanziun’s webtoon is set to broadcasted on KBS2, starting January 2, 2024. Episodes will premiered every Monday and Tuesday at 9:45 PM KST. International viewers can tune into Viki to watch the series subsequently.
