Overlord Season 4 Episode 2 Review- Love And Politics

Prince Overlord Season 4 Episode 2

This was a surprisingly low-key episode of the show where the show played all of its cards pretty close to its chest. There were a bunch of tiny intricacies going on behind the scenes that the audience wasn’t privy to, as the season is building towards another of its patented high intensity and even higher quality finales. There is very much a formula to how things usually go in this show now, and we are not deviating from the norm this time around. Let’s discuss some more about it.

The show introduces new characters at the start of each season who will get battered into submission, killed off to progress Ainz’s (his subordinates’, really) goal of world domination, or used and thrown aside by the end of the season. The characters are usually well written but forgotten after the show is done with them (see Hamosuke and the Lizard people). The character development of the core cast is at the cost of these new characters, which doesn’t matter since they are the ones who are important and are going to stick around at the end of the day. Ainz and his team are going to demolish everyone by the end.

Albedo Princess Overlord Season 4 Episode 2

A bunch of development was done on this end in this episode as the political aspect was zeroed in upon. Albedo sowed the seeds of her involvement in this in the last episode as she took off to visit the empire, and she had a huge role to play in this episode. Princess Renner and the Blue Moon adventurer party were also present, although their role in Overlord Season 4 isn’t as clear as Albedo’s. Being a huge political influence is what Renner was built for, however, and she is going to be a formidable ally or opponent to Momon, depending on the cards she plays.

Momon is experiencing a lot of doubts and misgivings about how he got into his current predicament. He knows that Albedo and Demiurge want to take over the world, not him. He sees how it’s an opportunity for his people and a chance to do some good in this world alongside finding out more about his lost guildmates, but he can’t help but wonder why his subordinates would want to do such a thing in the first place. This is a fascinating occurrence and perfectly suited for a show with Overlord‘s large cast and character dynamics. Ainz might need to confront some of his children in the future, which is as exciting as it gets.

The show has always been known for fantastic opening and ending themes, and Overlord Season 4 has also knocked it out of the park. The animation featuring all the new characters that are yet to be introduced facing the ones we know looked slick, and the song was extremely catchy as well. The ending was also quite dramatic and sounded great. The animation in this season has been great, and even the CG has been good whenever it has been on screen. Production-wise, Madhouse is always great and is proving that with Overlord.

Verdict

Overlord Season 4 Episode 2 was a slow and deliberate episode that set up a lot of pieces on the board for the future but didn’t accomplish much on its own.
