Outer Range Episode 5 and 6 Review: Plot Gets a Bit Better But Still Weirder

Outer Range Episode 5 and 6 are now out. The neo-western mystery thriller on Amazon Prime Video stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, Tom Pelphrey as Perry Abbot, Lili Taylor as Cecilia Abbot, Imogen Poots as Autumn, Noah Reid as Billy Tillerson, Matt Lauria as Trevor Tillerson, Will Patton as Wayne Tillerson, Tamara Podemski as Deputy Sheriff Joy and Olive Abercrombie as Amy Abbott. The fifth and sixth episodes are titled ‘The Soil’ and ‘The Family’.

The synopsis reads, “Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown.”

Outer Range Episode 5 and 6 Review Contains No Spoiler

In Outer Range Episode 5, Cecilia finally comes face to face with Autumn. The meet doesn’t go well, and one has to watch to know what happened as I don’t want to give away spoilers. In a series of events and thanks to a witness, Deputy Sheriff Joy gets more suspicious of Perry and Rhett regarding Trevor Tillerson’s murder case. Royal Abbot is trying to solve the mystery behind a black gem.

The events from episode 5 affect Outer Range Episode 6. Due to some reason, things go wrong between Royal and Autumn. Royal Abbott gets so furious with Autumn that he leaves her out in nowhere and burns her tent. The episode keeps getting weirder with a talking bear and Billy Tillerson and Autumn crossing paths. The Abbott family drama intensifies at the end of the episode.

Outer Range Episode 5 and 6 still 1

Compared to the previous episodes, episode 5 of Outer Range on Amazon Prime Video was still better. But the entire episode 6 was quite baffling and bizarre. Instead of answering several ongoing questions, there’s growing confusion and more questions. What exactly are the purpose of the black hole and its connection with Autumn and Royal Abbott? How will the story shape with the Tillerson family being in trouble and the deputy investigating a murder? The plot has gone in different ways instead of just focusing on the burning questions.

Outer Range Episode 5 and 6 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Outer Range Episode 5 and 6 were comparatively better but still weirder than the previous ones. One can only hope that things make some sense in the show’s last two episodes. If it ends with cliffhangers, there will be way too many. The ending won’t be satisfactory even a bit.
