As the documentary shooting comes to a close, we get to see Ung and Yeon-su coming this far together. Their love-hate childish relationship has transformed into something deeper and more profound now as they spend time in each other’s arms after Ung’s devastating confession the night before. Ung tells Yeon-su about his parents crying every year during fall and him getting nightmares about being abandoned constantly. It’s heavy stuff and the tender and emotional way in which the series showcases their love and adoration for each other is spectacular and will make your heart heavy.

The next day, in Our Beloved Summer episode 12, Ung and Yeon-su act like teenagers again as she waits for him to call and he comes over to meet her. Their interactions are just adorable and Choi Woo-shik and Kim Da-mi are just so cute together and their chemistry is mesmerising.

Meanwhile, Ji-ung has been in a real shitty mood and is also sick now. He’s been in the dumps ever since he understood that Yeon-su and Ung are getting back together. Ung comes to his place to tell him but he doesn’t feel happy for him and his jealousy is sort of evident, although it doesn’t seem like Ung thinks anything like that.

Newfound love can be awkward and nothing says that much like Yeon-su and her overthinking. She overthinks that things are awkward between her and Ung but when he comes over to her place of work, she is taken a bit aback but is pleasantly surprised. The way she embraces him from behind, you will surely be left with a big smile on your face – the weekend is truly too far away.

Ji-ung and NJ have dinner together to drown out their sorrows somewhat while Ung discusses NJ and the scandal with a slightly angry Yeon-su. He invites her over for jujube tea and as they laugh at his absurd thought, he gets a call and invites her to do something lame – they go to the gallery where he tells her that he hopes to hold a nighttime exhibition.

As everything becomes black and white and Ung imagines what it would a night exhibition would be like, he sees Yeon-su there among his pieces. He says that whatever he drew, whenever it happened, he always imagined Yeon-su there with him and he was always loving her. They go to his home where they spend the night in each other’s arms making out.

In the epilogue, Ji-ung thinks back to when Ung had come over to his place in the midst of his sickness and Ung sleeping on the floor beside him. As they joke about him moving into Ung’s place, Ji-ung wonders why he always ends up being the bad guy.

Our Beloved Summer episode 12: What’s next?

After the very fluffy episode that this was, it seems like there’s going to be trouble in paradise in the next episode. Yeon-su and Ung are going to fight once more but will they break up? Also, relationships are going to be broken regarding NJ and Ji-ung as well. Can’t wait for more heartbreak to come my way.

This episode is everything that I wanted this series to be. Deep, emotional, romantic and extremely tender and loving. I loved the growth that our protagonists showcased in this episode, where they understood themselves and each other and acted accordingly. Of course, there were moments of childishness but without those it’d be a boring relationship, let’s be honest. However, they still have a lot of growing up to do, especially regarding owning up their traumas and moving past them. Forgiveness is something they still need to learn and soon and I am guessing these issues are going to push them to fight again in the upcoming episodes. And, my heart is not ready for it!
