Singer-songwriter Nicki Minaj has faced significant backlash over her vocal support for former President Donald Trump. The apparent political shift has come suddenly, and many fans have expressed dissatisfaction with the conservative views she has promoted since.
While public criticism appeared to have little effect on Minaj, her career may now be facing repercussions tied to her political stance. Reports suggest she may not be on the attendee list for the 2026 Met Gala, scheduled for May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The singer has attended the event eight times since 2013. However, this year, organizers — including Met Gala chair Anna Wintour, who oversees the guest list — have reportedly excluded her. According to industry insiders, the decision may be linked to Minaj’s recent political alignment and support for Trump.
British journalist Rob Shuter wrote on Substack, citing an industry insider: “Nicki’s invitations didn’t just slow down — they vanished. Hollywood stopped returning her calls. This isn’t subtle anymore. She’s been shut out. There’s no formal ban — just a collective step back. She’s radioactive right now. And in this town, that’s the kiss of death.”
The insider also claimed Minaj’s embrace of conservative views led to industry figures quietly distancing themselves, creating what was described as an “invisible wall” around her. The tipping point may have come after she attended Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix in December 2025, where she appeared alongside Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk, a controversial right-wing figure, was killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.
During her appearance with his widow at the TPUSA event, Minaj said, “It’s okay to change your mind,” referring to politics and her own views, before praising Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Another source said, “That was it. Hollywood doesn’t forgive this kind of alignment, especially when it’s loud and unapologetic.” In addition to political factors, other issues may have contributed to her reported exclusion from the Met Gala.
Minaj has also been involved in a public feud with Jay-Z and his company, Roc Nation. Notably, Beyoncé — Jay-Z’s wife — is among the co-chairs of this year’s Met Gala, alongside Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman.
Minaj has also criticized Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez over business disputes. She previously expressed frustration with Jay-Z for supporting Kendrick Lamar as the 2025 Super Bowl halftime performer instead of Lil Wayne. Lamar’s performance sparked strong reactions online, and Minaj’s opposition may have further strained industry relationships.
