MerPeople is a documentary series dedicated to a profession which is essentially dressing up like a mermaid- with the tail and fin and makeup and, diving underwater and performing. The series takes us through the stories of a lot of people who are in this profession before landing on the final episode where we are privy to a royal competition in this mermaid-ing industry.

Titled Fin for the Win, the fourth episode of MerPeople introduces us to the competition called The King and Queen of the Sea. It is a competition for mermaids and mermen from around the world and is produced by Miss Mermaid USA directors Lauren Chu & Chelsi Wilkerson. MerFolk comes together here and features their mer-skills, costuming and pageantry to win the title and a lavish prize.
There are three positions or titles: King of the Seas which is given to the highest scoring merman, Queen of the Seas which is given to the highest scoring mermaid and Regent of the Seas- the first runner-up in the competition. Apart from that there are 12 superlative award sashes.
Netflix’s MerPeople ends with announcing the competition winners. From the twelve finalists or fin-alists as the anchor called out, the Queen of the Seas title is given to The Sea Queen of the Sunshine State aka Luna. The grand prize went to The Sea King of California- Merman Andy. Along with this, we see the best congeniality award that is given to a MerPerson for beauty and grace. South Carolina- Blix is the one who wins this under the title of Virgin Voyages.
