Netflix’s Kitty Love: An Homage to Cats Review: Cute, Cuddly and Lots of Mischiefs!

Kitty Love: An Homage to Cats is a documentary film directed by Mark Verkerk and presented by Nicolette Kluijver.

Having a bad day? Well, you have ended up at the right place. Netflix’s Kitty Love: An Homage to Cats (or, Poeslief: een ode aan de kat) is a one-hour documentary about, you guessed it, CATS! In particular, we follow the most famous cat in all of the Netherlands – Abatutu. He’s an actor and a very well-known one at that. So, having said that, I’ll keep my Kitty Love review short and sweet because I know I won’t find anything negative to say about it.

We start off with Abatutu, a chonky and beautiful cat, walking down the streets. He gives us a rundown of his life and how it feels like to be famous. Of course, that’s a given when you’re this talented and gorgeous. The entire documentary has a narration running in the background, which is meant to be Abatutu talking.

We learn about his relationship with water. Of course, he hates it but enjoys playing with it on his own terms. He also does not like the fact that humans find it amusing to film them during their agony, but what can we do about it. Rain is also a big no-no, although water from the tap is awesome.

We then go on to learn about cats’ relationship with children. I totally agree with him, kids are noisy and annoying – except when they are petting and feeding you.

Next, we learn how Abatutu got so famous. While he is pet by different famous people, a journalist goes off to meet Abatutu. We get to know how the cutie got his unique name – that story is absolutely funny. We learn about Abatutu and how he is different from everyone else.

We also learn about the relationship between cats and dogs. In the first line itself, Abatutu calls dogs useless. He also mentions that dogs are always waiting for their owners. Can you imagine anyone owning him?

Wondering about their ideas about food? Well, Abatutu tells you that too. Mice, fish or stealing from unsuspecting tourists – he does it all. But a healthy dose of kibble is also on the plate!

The entire documentary is filled with such informative stuff, divided into parts and every minute is absolutely the best. It’s funny, enlightening and cute with home videos of these funny fur balls being their absolute best and mischievous selves.

The documentary does not only present videos of Abatutu, but also of other kitties of different shapes and sizes. We see everyone having a great time and running around and getting into mischief. Each segment is followed by home videos of cats in different situations.

Honestly, if you’re having a bad day, then this is the right dose of happiness that can calm your mind and give you comfort. There’s nothing you can lose out here, but you gain a lot of joy through it. The documentary is well-done, the narration is very happy and there are cats everywhere being their cutest selves. There’s also some cute animation on the screen to make everything more adorable and a background score to match those vibes.
