The KBS2 South Korean series (순정복서) is a sports drama based on the novel Pure Boxer by Chu Jong-nam. Directed by Choi Sang-yeol and Hong Eun-mi, the show has been written by Kim Min-joo, and stars Kim So-hye, Lee Sang-yeob, Park Ji-hwan and others in lead roles.

So-hye plays Lee Kwon-sook, a young genius boxing star who disappeared into a new life until an unexpected twist changes the way she views the sport. Whereas, Sang-yeob will be appearing as Kim Tae-young, an eccentric sports agent.

Kim is also known IOI Sohye, aka a former member of the K-pop girl group who’d also participated in Mnet’s girl group survival show Produce 101. As far as her acting career goes, she was last seen in TV Chosun’s Strange School Tales: The Child Who Would Not Come (2020) and KBS2’s How to Buy a Friend (2020). On the other hand, Sang-yeob last starred in tvN’s Eve (2022) with Seo Yea-ji and MBC TV’s On the Verge of Insanity (2021) with Moon So-ri. My Lovely Boxer Kdrama will take over the KBS2 Monday-Tuesday 9:45PM KST time slot previously occupied by Heartbeat starring Ok Taec-yeon, Won Ji-an, Park Kang-hyun and Yoon So-hee.

My Lovely Boxer Plot

A turning point entangles Kim Tae-young and Lee Kwon-sook’s lives. Tae-young is an out-of-the-ordinary cold blooded sports agent who treats his players as a mere material means for his personal monetary gain. He attracts talented players to the sporting field, only to retire them in a short period of time. Holding no personal or emotional connections with either of his clients, surprisingly, his bond with Kim Hee-won, a baseball pitcher, goes deep.

Embroiled in a tussle, Hee-won’s dire situation compels Tae-young to lure out the female boxer Lee Kwon-sook, Who went missing from the boxing scene three years ago. Initially having emerged as a top boxer only at the age of 17, she remained undefeated through her career, and even aided the sport to become a household name. Due to Hee-won’s involvement, Tae-young has to approach the former elite boxer, who not only stepped away from the boxing ring, but also stated a new life altogether.

The main cast roster is a star-studded affair as stellar talented actors will be leading this series this August. The K-drama’s leading cast includes Kim So-hye as Lee Kwon-sook, Lee Sang-yeob as Kim Tae-young, Park Ji-hwan as Kim Oh-bok, Kim Hyung-mook as Lee Chul-yong, Ha Seung-ri as Jeong Su-yeon, Kim Jin-woo aka WINNER Jinu as Han Jae-min and Chae Won-bin as Han Ah-reum.

Where to Watch My Lovely Boxer

The series will air on Monday and Tuesday on the South Korean broadcasting networks KBS2, and will eventually stream internationally for certain regions on Viu and Viki.

The Korean TV series will air from August 21, 2023, to September 26, 2023. Episode 1 of the series will air on August 21 at 9:45 PM KST.

My Lovely Boxer Episode 1 Prediction

Since this is just the first episode, we’ll most likely be introduced to all leading characters in the lot and visions of how Kwon-sook is living her life away from the sporting ground. The concept of match-fixing will also figure into the narrative, possibly further revealing the different shades of Kim Tae-young, probably in turn tying into the truth of why he has established his cold and unfeeling personality.

The new K-drama title will start airing next week on KBS2, every Monday-Tuesday.
