My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 8 Recap

The episode kicks off once again with Koichi attempting to use his Quirk to stop a threat, only to fall short. Fortunately, he’s saved just in time by Captain Celebrity, a high-ranking American pro hero who has recently made his way to Japan. Although he boasts a spot among America’s top 10 heroes, Knuckleduster reveals that Captain Celebrity’s reputation back home isn’t spotless. He suspects the hero’s move to Japan is financially motivated.
That suspicion gains credibility when a kaiju-like creature starts causing destruction. Instead of jumping into action, Captain Celebrity waits until his entourage and the media arrive. While he delays, Koichi immediately rushes in to help. Though Captain Celebrity ultimately takes down the monster, it’s Koichi who saves a stranded puppy. Nonetheless, the media credits the entire victory to Captain Celebrity, who later mocks Koichi for his costume.

Captain Celebrity’s vanity becomes even more obvious when he arrives at a demolition site accompanied by a cheer squad. His flirtatious nature also surfaces when he begins pursuing Makoto. Concerned for her, Koichi decides to keep an eye on both of them, determined to protect her from any unwanted attention.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 9 Review

This episode begins with Makoto coming to Koichi’s house to pretend to be his girlfriend, as his strict mother wants to meet her son’s lover. However, Koichi’s mother is way more intelligent, and she immediately catches on to the ruse that Makoto is actually lying. Koichi’s mother really beats and scolds her son for trying to dupe her.
But that is not all. Pop Step also comes, and later, even Knuckleduster joins them, and the situation becomes quite chaotic. Thankfully, Knuckleduster manages to introduce himself in a much more normal way, where he discloses that he helps people out locally without actually disclosing his identity.

Thereafter, when Koichi, his mother and Makoto go for a fun little shopping trip, their tour bus suddenly gets out of control. It is because Hachisuka somehow managed to infect a cat with the drug, and that possessed the vehicle. Even Ingenium, the pro hero, comes to the rescue and realises that Koichi is in danger. He manages to save almost everyone, but Makoto remains on the bus. This is because the moment she is about to get off the bus, Hachisuka injects the whole drug into the cat, and the cat completely loses control.
Koichi also helps by giving Ingenium the much-needed fuel that he would need to keep running. This is where Ingenium decides to use Koichi as a backup and conduct the rescue mission. However, things do not go as he planned, and something else happens. Koichi finally evolves, and we get to see how he might not be weak in the first place.
Verdict

Today’s episode was really good as it very nicely showcased the change in Koichi. We see his journey from a weak person to someone with a pretty strong quirk. His hero identity also gets disclosed in front of Makoto, and now we will have to see how she will react to the whole scenario.
