My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 5 Review- Something To Prove

I will try my hardest for my personal bias for the show not to come into the picture for this review and be as objective as possible without spoiling anything for people who haven’t watched this. This episode of My Hero Academia was excellent. I doubt you will get that feeling if this episode was the first thing you ever saw from the series, but this is Episode 5 of Season 6 we are talking about. Most of the audience already knows everything there is to know about the series by now and is aware of everything it has taken to get to this point, making it so much sweeter.

This episode had a finality to it, the kind we haven’t seen in the show since Deku vs Overhaul in season four. The atmosphere was thick with terror and dread as the worst thing that could happen to our heroes at this point happened, and the heroes’ worst fears came true- the new face of evil and the strongest threat in the show had reemerged from Garaki’s laboratory and was set to destroy everything he could see with his eyes. Tomura Shigaraki had returned.

This statement would have been a punchline, or at least a farce, if it came before the events of Season 5, which changed things for the better for the villain and much, much worse for the good guys. He is now a threat the likes of which we have never seen in the show and whose destruction capabilities supersede a small atomic bomb. The show handled his return perfectly, and he had an aura about him that told everyone that despite the previous season’s faults, it did succeed in making him an absolute monster and the villain to beat by the show’s end.

His arrival changed the atmosphere of the show instantaneously. What was a triumphant success became a nightmare, and people fell left and right, and Heroes lost all the ground they had gained. The music and animation were extremely on point as the realisation hit everyone, and the future looks extraordinarily bleak for the good side. They might have lost Twice, and all the Nemus, but Tomura and Gigantamachia are enough to kill literally every Hero that steps up. Well, except one, perhaps.

This episode also saw what I had been predicting for three weeks, as the main trio of Class 1-A saw some action, including our main boy, Deku. He wasn’t going to wait on the sidelines for long, and the show picked the best time possible to include him in the mix. It was great to see that there was some logic in play, and most students didn’t just get to romp around inside the villain’s lair while the actual Heroes just watched. There was logical sense used almost everywhere, and the students only got into the mix when absolutely necessary, like Kaminari in Episode 3 and Tokoyami in this one.
Verdict
My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 5 was a phenomenal outing and one that managed to inspire terror, hopelessness, and dread in a manner one would never expect. If you are still sleeping on this, you are missing out.
