Dhoni Entertainment, which is co-owned by the legendary cricketer MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni, is all set to take on South cinema, starting with Tamil films. It will be the first mainstream feature film from the production house, which has produced a bunch of small-budget films and docu-series like Roar of the Lion, The Hidden Hindu and Blaze to Glory, previously.
They have created small-budget but impactful films with meaning. Roar of Lion was a movie about the return of Chennai Super Kings to IPL after suffering a two-year ban. Blaze to Glory was a documentary film, chronicling the historic World Cup win in 2011 and The Hidden Hindu was a film based on a mythological thriller by author Akshat Gupta.
Taking things to a bigger scale, Dhoni Entertainment took to social media to announce that they will be producing a family entertainer in the Tamil language, which had been conceptualised by Sakshi Singh Dhoni, the Managing Director of Dhoni Entertainment.
The production house added that it was to be directed by Ramesh Thamilmani, who has also authored Atharva – The Origin, a new-age graphic novel. The cast and crew of the film will be announced shortly. They said that the cricketer shared an exceptional bond with the people of Tamil Nadu and that it was looking to strengthen this extra special relationship even further by producing its first film in Tamil.
While the director calls the concept fresh and says that it had all the potential to be a fun-filled family entertainer. The creative head of the production house, Priyanshu Chopra comments that they believe in the content to be the king. They are concentrating on content that explores our roots and authentically portrays our culture. They hope to make realistic films with universal appeal.
Besides Tamil, Dhoni Entertainment is in talks with multiple filmmakers and scriptwriters to create and produce exciting and meaningful content across genres including science fiction, suspense thriller, crime, drama, and comedy.
