Moonchild by RM and More BTS Songs Listed on NASA Outer Space Voyage 2024 Playlist

BTS has continuously set and broken records, bringing immense joy to their fans. As of January 2, 2024, it was announced that Moonchild by RM had been selected as part of the NASA Outer Space Voyage 2024 Playlist. This marks the first time a K-pop solo song will be played in outer space. Additionally, the playlist includes two other songs from the group: Mikrokosmos and 134340. This selection is part of the celebrations commemorating the 50th Apollo 11 anniversary.

Moonchild is the third track on RM’s mixtape Mono, which resonates with those navigating inner turmoil, offering solace in the midst of darkness. Its lyrics gracefully encourage individuals facing personal struggles to cling to hope, finding illumination within themselves akin to the gentle glow of the moon. It beautifully illustrates that sometimes, the radiance of the moon suffices to unveil the brighter aspects of life, conveying guidance on transcending hardships.

Whereas BTS’ 134340  is the track from the Love Yourself: Tear album, the number symbolises Pluto’s transition from a planet to a dwarf planet. The song beautifully parallels this relegation, delving into themes of feeling overlooked, undervalued, and forgotten. Through the metaphor of Pluto, BTS skilfully explores the emotions of emptiness and insignificance, sentiments many can relate to at some point in life.

On the other hand, BTS’ Mikrokosmos, the third track from 2019 album Map of the Soul: Persona, is a heartfelt ode celebrating the mutual love between the group and their fans, whom they consider their guiding stars. This song metaphorically portrays humans as stars, emphasising self-discovery and the complexity of persona within the vastness of life.

The three songs each utilise celestial bodies like the Moon and planets to convey the significance and essence of life. This connection to cosmic themes is why these three tracks were chosen for inclusion in the NASA Voyage. Despite BTS members serving in the military, the exciting news continues to resonate deeply with fans, enveloping them in a sense of the group’s omnipresence.
