The hour-long show presents an intimate, reimagined performance with the artist, including interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and venue vignettes. Radio host Roman Kemp also sits down with Goulding to discuss her new album and life as a new mom. Furthermore, combining activism with art, Goulding discusses environmental urgency with Kew’s senior science policy advisor, Dr Carly Cowell.

Right at the start, Ellie Goulding stated that she loves two things the most in her life, one is her passion for singing and performing & the other is nature, her eminent inspiration. And performing at the Kew Gardens make it all the more special for her, as she puts up a series of acoustic performances in the middle of the botanical garden.

The first song of her set is Cure For Love, which is the second track on her upcoming fifth studio album Higher Than Heaven. Clad in a white wet-look mini dress with white heeled boots & silver metallic accessories, the song talks about a past relationship that’s still haunting her but she will learn from her mistakes & won’t let them affect her.

This pop track definitely has the potential to be the next viral dance challenge or used on short videos. Following the first performance, we see Goulding in a blue and white striped shirt dress with black leather high boots, sitting down with Roman Kemp – who asks her about her source of inspiration & how she come up with her songs.

Evidently, she credits her walks in nature as the time when she gets the most inspiration about her craft. She puts emphasis on creating whatever you want despite the current trends. She says that instead of focusing on one thing there are many ways she can put her message across. Moving forward, the singer performs one of her Tik Tok viral hits – Still Falling For You, which was actually the soundtrack for the film Bridget Jones’s Baby, released in 2016.

Being so accustomed to the short format, I was only waiting for the high note to come and realised that I never really listened to the whole song. After the performance, she shares about her life after pregnancy and how she went away from everything until something snapped and brought her back to the music scene. She talks about mental health & how everything including ongoing war, the pandemic etc affected everyone.

With the third song Burn, which was released in 2013, Goulding changes the electronic synth-pop song to a more mellow one with the string quartet. Even the set changes with brighter lights and a small octagonal reflective stage for the singer. With a break, the next song, Love Goes On, which is from the latest song starts.

Talking about the new album, she shares that she wishes to write clever pop songs and this album is a fun album, which she created to escape from the blue feeling of the pandemic. Although art can be interpreted in many different ways, she hopes the album is an escape from everything dark around.

She then performs the fourth track from the album, Like a Saviour which was pre-released in February 2023. It has a groovy beat that feels a bit retro and wants to make you dance as if in a trance. The sixth track from her set was Let It Die which talks about letting go of a toxic relationship. Leading to her interaction with Dr Carly Cowell, who expresses how everything is intertwined & from small changes we can save the planet from a big catastrophe, especially in the wake of Climate change.

Ellie Goulding also shares how art is often associated with activism, as a piece of art can make a prominent comment on a social situation. But she often gets criticised and is called a hypocrite for activism to save nature. However, through her music, she wants to shed light on the matters that need immediate attention.

Following that, she performs more songs from her latest album, Midnight Dream, By the End of the Night, Woman and lastly Higher Than Heaven. To end the show, the singer performed one of her debut songs, Lights which definitely brings back some nostalgia from when the song was released in 2010.

Summing Up: Monumental Ellie Goulding at Kew Gardens

The special sums up Goulding’s career which includes some catchy viral hits, songs from her latest album and some classic songs which brought her to the music scene. She uses her art and influence to bring attention to the cause she cares about, which is commendable. If there is anything else that can be included is the outfit change with her songs & mood for a better dramatic effect.
