Minus One Season 2 Review Contains No Spoilers
In Minus One Season 2, we finally find out why Ria and Varun break up. Considering the ending of season 1, we expect things to become normal between the ex-couple. But their entire set-up of living together after the breakup as friends is rare. In the new season, the duo have to stop being in denial and accept their emotions and the situation. What will be the outcome of all of this? We find out in the last episode.
The first season of Lionsgate Play’s Minus One starts with an intense fight between Ria and Varun. However, they had lots of fun when they started living together as roommates and friends. But in season 2, the light moments are no more there. It is time for them to stop running away from the truth, tell their families everything and mainly, face and accept the reality of their relationship.
The characters are at very different stages in their professional and personal lives. But deep down, they seek each other. In the scenes where Ria and Varun pretend that they’re okay with how things are working for each other, both Aisha and Ayush stand out. Their eyes express their sadness and longing for each other. They’re a couple who would not be together but won’t let each other move on peacefully.

The execution of the new season is just how it was the last time. We are first given a glimpse of their happy and passionate relationship in the past. Then the scenes cut to present where things are a mess, and they’re not a couple anymore. With every episode, happiness fades away, and the past and present appear the same – heartbreaking. Things take a huge turn in the fifth episode, but the ending is something one doesn’t expect.

Aisha Ahmed is superb in emotional scenes. But I wasn’t a fan of her short hair look in the new season. Ayush Mehra speaks more with silence in the new season and has done a good job. The chemistry between Aisha and Ayush is quite sensual.
Along with the screenplay and performances, cinematography plays a key role in storytelling. In some scenes, the camera is very close to their face, giving us a clear view of Ria and Varun’s frustration towards each other. Even though the duo is in the same room, it feels like they shot separately. It gives us an idea of how they were physically present but emotionally distant from each other. The still scenes that split the frames into two in the same setting were the representation of their broken relationship.

Minus One Season 2 Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Minus One: New Chapter is emotionally intense, messy and complicated. The series continues showing Ria and Varun’s toxicity for not letting each other move on, but hurting the people they date. At times, all you want to do is yell at them – Get together and be happy again!
The new season is now streaming on Lionsgate Play.
