OTT titles have formed this new pattern of releasing episodes in instalments and while it does work in the favour of captivating the audience’s attention for an extended period of time, the wait equally makes them more frantic and desperate to tune into the next chapter. The same is being experienced by Tamil content fans who’re anticipating the premiere of Mathagam Part 2 on Hotstar. The Tamil crime thriller series first came out on the streamer on August 18, 2023, with 5 episodes and though viewers were worried about how long they’d have to wait for the second instalment to pop up again, the series is finally going to premiere on the platform soon enough.
Taking the classic route of unravelling the connections and conflict between the Good and the Evil, the gangster drama series has been directed by Prasath Murugesan of Kidaari fame, with cinematography by Edwin Sakay and action choreography by Dhilip Subbarayan. Mathagam Hotstar Cast
Starring Atharvaa in the lead role as ACP Ashwath Rathnakumar IPS, this series marks his second venture into the OTT world after his 2021 Netflix series Navarasa. Alongside him, the ensemble cast also includes K Manikandan playing Padalam Sekar, Gautham Vasudev Menon as Thiru, Dilnaz Irani as Commissioner Sayanthika, Dhivyadharshini aka DD as Safia, Ilavarasu as Veeravaal Nallangkiri and others.
Mathagam Part 2 Plot / Storyline
Ending on a captivating turn, the first part of Mathagam, being set in Chennai, followed high-ranking oficer Ashwath, who sets out on a covert mission to nab Padalam Sekar and other infamous names from the underworld, all gathered at a party. While the show uncovers the nexus between cops and gangsters through these two main characters of the story whose lives are entangled in a cat and mouse chase, it also brings the former’s personal life into the picture as his wife Vaideghi (Nikhila Vimal) is struggling with post-partum depression.

The additional pressures of the corrupt powers at play also act as a major hindrance in Ashwath’s path to apprehending these criminal minds. Part 2 will also focus on the same network of connecting stories firmly established in the first part. Part 1 also left us all wondering what will happen when the two opposing forces will finally collide, so leaving us all on a cliffhanger, and the upcoming instalment is set to resume action from that point on. Will they be caught in a shootout? Who will reign on top after this face off? We will find the answers to all these questions very soon.
Mathagam Part 2 Release Date
Part 1 released in August and consisted of 5 episodes. Although we’re yet to see how many episodes Part 2 will have, it’s set to release on October 12, 2023 on Disney+ Hotstar. The show will also be available to stream in several languages including Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali.
