Mathagam Ending Explained: The Tamil series starring Atharvaa and Manikandan in lead roles takes on the crime mystery genre with an intriguing tale that follows a police officer’s quest to capture the city’s most wanted criminals. Written and directed by Prasad Murugesan, the show consists of five episodes of forty minutes each that explore the thriller plot.

The series also boasts of strong supporting cast including Nikila Vimal in the role of Atharvaa’s wife and also Dilnaz Irani as the Commissioner of Police. Among other popular faces in the show are also Gautham Vasudev Menon, Ilavarasu, Vadivukarasi and Moonar Ramesh.

Mathagam Hotstar Series Plot

The series revolves around police officer Ashwath’s (Atharvaa) operation to nab the city’s most notorious criminals after he learns about an upcoming gathering being hosted where all the gangsters are set to meet. The party is being organised by Padalam Sekar (K Manikandan), also known as the Whale, who is on the most-wanted list after committing multiple murders. The show follows how the two opposing protagonists go head to head with their plans as Ashwath tries to catch Padalam.

Right from the first episode, we learn how Ashwath takes his job seriously and is and is unhappy about how the system is plagued by corruption. Upon receiving an opportunity to capture Chennai’s most wanted criminals, he leaves no stone unturned to carefully trace the whereabouts of the upcoming party that is being hosted by Padalam with a grand plan in mind. The police officer runs a covert operation with an insider tracking all of Padalam’s plans.

While the show slowly goes about revealing one by one, the guests who are invited by Padalam to this party, the day of the event is finally revealed in the last episode. With Ashwath all ready to capture Padalam as well as his guests at the venue of the party, there is a tip-off that the gangster receives about police plans which change the course of things.

While politicians are trying to stop Ashwath from carrying out his operation due to their nexus with the underworld, the police officer’s senior, Commissioner Sayanthika (Dilnaz Irani) who approved Ashwath’s operation is asked to transfer. Till the last moment, it’s unclear whether Ashwath can continue with his plan to nab the criminals since the orders to do so have to come from those above him. On the other side, after learning about the police chasing after them, Padalam prepares to defend himself and his guests as he takes guns to prepare for the upcoming threat.

Across the five episodes, both Ashwath and Padalam keep moving from one step to another as the former keeps catching up to the latter. While they never interact directly via phone or other methods, the last frame of the series showcases the duo in opposing frames pointing guns, thus teasing a face-off.

The cliffhanger ending of the show is expected to leave fans intrigued about what will happen next and whether Atharvaa and Manikandan’s characters will finally come face to face. The action teased towards the end of the final episode suggests that there may be a showdown that may take place between Ashwath and his officials stationed at the venue where Padalam is having a bash with his fellow criminals. The sinister plan that the gangster has after inviting all the other rowdies to the venue is also not revealed till the end.

  1. the climax is an anticlimax, completely left to the speculation of the viewers, until season 2 streamed 6 months from now.
