Now that the immunity pin challenge is over saving Malissa, the rest of the contestants proceeded to the elimination round in today’s episode. Since few of the contestants tested positive for Covid, only 9 participants came forth until the remaining cooks recover. The judges introduced the day’s mission and announced the elimination.
All three judges’ childhood photos were shown on an LED screen behind them, hinting at the day’s challenge. Each judge revealed their childhood ingredient and asked the cooks to choose any one and make a dish around it. Jock revealed Panattoni Italian cake, Melissa showed Kumquat as her favourite ingredient, and finally, Andy revealed vegemite.
The 9 cooks were asked to present a unique dish using either of the ingredients, and the three contestants whose dish failed to impress the judges will proceed to round 2 to avoid elimination. As soon as the timer clicked, all of the contestants rushed to get their ingredients. Panic was filling the rooms since the three ingredients seemed too new and challenging for some of the participants. Due to the pressure, Adi even dropped the ingredients down, causing a mess.

Nevertheless, the cooks somehow let go of their fears and started preparing. As usual, the judges went around to check on what the cooks were preparing. They gave their positive feedback to lift the contestants’ spirits. The timer countdown came, and the cooks wrapped their dishes.
One by one, the cooks presented their dishes, starting with Phil. Some of the dishes received compliments, some certain suggestions, while some didn’t get to the heart of the judges. The best dish among the contestants was Brent’s and Rue’s. After applauding them, the judges said that Andrea, Amy, and Robbie’s dish didn’t work well and that they will have to proceed to round 2.
In round 2, the three contestants were asked to prepare another dish with their favourite childhood ingredient. The LED screen behind the judges added the childhood pictures of Amy, Andrea, and Robbie, making the atmosphere deary. The three of them explained the scenario behind those photos before kicking off their final challenge.

Once again, tension arose, and the contestants somehow winded up their dishes. Then, again one by one, they went alone to the judges waiting in a room to test their food. Once the contestants explain their dish, they were asked to leave the room so the judges could discuss it in private.
After all three cooks’ delicious foods were tasted, the hardest part came. Robbie was saved first, leaving Amy and Andrea to wait for the last call. As the judges’ feedback already showed Amy’s dish was perfect, it was evident that Andrea is eliminated. The announcement was made, and all the cooks cheered up for Andrea before he left the show.
MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 5 Review: Final Thoughts
The episode was solid because the elimination looked fair and ideal. The challenge wasn’t too hard because the judges gave three ingredient options. However, only those that made an impressive dish went ahead. Though Andrea was eliminated he gave a good fight to the rest of the contestants. Indeed pressure took over him, and he didn’t give his best, but hopefully, the remaining participants would take note of this and keep their calm high.
