Previously in episode 2, Jessica and Antonio got inside the immunity pin challenge, which will take place in episode 4, along with one more contestant. Speaking of that particular contestant, the remaining 16 contestants have to fight for the last spot. To get that opportunity, Jamie Oliver left the participants with a surprising test, and the one dish that makes a cut will get the chance to battle with Jessica and Antonio.
As usual, all the contestants came inside the room where the judges awaited them. Then Judge Melissa proceeded to explain the day’s challenge, where the contestants will have to create a dish with the flavour bomb placed inside different coloured cloches. The contestants were given a coloured apron, meaning that whatever secret ingredient is inside their colour corresponding cloche, must be added to their dish. While this sounded simple, Melissa added the final twist. The contestants apparently won’t know what their flavour bomb ingredient is until they’re 15 minutes into the challenge.

After hearing this, the contestants were completely shocked because if they choose a dish and get quarter-way through it and the revealed flavour bomb doesn’t match their idea, they will have to restart the entire process and finish a dish in 60 minutes. Anyway, after giving them time to catch their breath, the challenge ignited.

With panic passing all around and contestants almost prepared with the base of their dish, the flavour bombs were revealed. For some, it worked, and for some, it was a massive failure. Specifically, Brent, who prepared pasta dough, had to throw it all down once the flavour bomb didn’t sit well with his idea. Hence he started the whole process again.

With the clock ticking, the contestants prepped up and worked their way out. When the final few seconds ticked, one of the contestants realised that they plated the wrong dish. The judges invited the contestants one by one and shared their thoughts. Most of the contestants got good feedback, while a few received constructive criticism.
Some unexpected combinations of dishes were also presented that surprised the judges. Finally, the judges came to the conclusion of moving a contestant to the immunity pin challenge. Since both Cath and Malissa’s dishes were excellent, the three judges finalised to send them both forward.
MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 3 Review: Final Thoughts

The genius Jamie Oliver’s challenge idea really made the episode intriguing. Obviously, when someone has prepared a savoury dish and the flavour is later revealed as sweet, who won’t panic? Even if this scenario did occur to some of the contestants, the way they flipped it and made their dish really proved that skills matter. Episode 3 was ridiculously good, and so far, the judges are doing their best work in giving precise yet strong comments.
