MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 18 Recap: Cherries and Honey Service Challenge

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 18 is called ‘Clare Smyth Service Challenge’. Judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo, welcome the 3 Michelin star Chef Clare Smyth. It is a service challenge where Fans and Favourites have to cook a 3-course meal in 2 hours.

Two cloches are placed in front of the contestants. One of them contains honey, and the other has cherries. Minoli, who served the best dish during the Mystery Box challenge, gets a chance to select the ingredient the Favourites can use to make their dishes. After discussing with her team, she selects cherries. So the Fans have to cook using honey.

Sarah from the Favourites stands in the gantry to balance the teams. Both the teams are divided into three groups each to prepare one particular course.

For MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 18’s Clare Smyth Service Challenge, from the Favourites, Aldo, Mindy and Julie team up to prepare the entree – Chicken live pâté w cherry gel, pickled cherries and cherry relish. The judges like the dish but feel that the cherry flavour doesn’t shine much. Harry, Matt and Jenny made the Salad entree from the Fans, and the judges absolutely loved it.

As their main dish, the Favourite serve the classic Duck and Cherries prepared by Sashi, Tommy and Michael. Andy, Melissa and Jock couldn’t get enough of how delicious the dish was. Ali, Daniel and Keymav from the Fans made Coral Trout with Smoked Honey Glaze. The contestants struggle to prepare their dishes as they run of out time almost. The judges like their main fish course but feel something is missing.

Billie, Alwin and Minoli from the Favourites make a beautiful dessert, Flavours of Black Forest. Andy, Jock, and Melissa enjoy the dish but again sense the lack of cherry flavour. Fans’ dessert by Montana, Steph and Melanie again impress the judges. The trio serve Honey parfait with caramelised figs brushed with a Pedro Ximenez vinegar honey glaze topped with a honey and thyme tuile.

After tasting all the dishes, the judges decided that the Fans’ made the best entree and dessert. Hence, everyone from the Fans’ team will get a chance to be a part of the Immunity Challenge. Whoever wins the immunity challenge will be safe from the Sunday elimination.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 18 Recap: Final Thoughts

The Service Challenges in the MasterChef kitchen are always stressful. However, the Favourites were cool as a cucumber during the whole time. The Fans were stressed a lot for every course but won the challenge. It was interesting to see them worrying and then finally rejoicing in the end.
