It is that time of this year when all of the pink stars aligned, and these Margot Robbie Barbie outfits graced our screens in the best way possible. This movie has definitely been getting a lot of traction for the trailer and the general vibe. The one person heading all of this hype is Robbie, whose outfits have been causing a storm in the film-watching community. People who are excited about the movie are more excited to see the outfits and the visual design than even the storyline. No one can blame them, obviously.

The film is written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach and stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Hellen Mirren, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, Scott Evans, Nicola Coughlan and Ritu Arya, alongside other cast members. It is shot by Rodrigo Prieto, while Sarah Greenwood works as the production designer, and Jacqueline Durran serves as the costume designer.
Iconic Margot Robbie Barbie Outfits
Solo in the Spotlight
This whole press tour has been a bigger and deeper look into Mattel’s history with the dolls, and so far, the actor has been crushing these looks. At the world premiere of the movie, she decided to cosplay the solo in the spotlight doll, which is a brilliantly fitting dress for the occasion. While most people reference the source material in a subtle way, Robbie does not care. She will make this doll outfit her entire personality and own every single bit of it. She even manages to make the whole thing look sophisticated and intentional, which is genius.
Day and Night
While this doll came at a time when women were entering the workspace, Robbie decided to recreate the exact same idea with her outfit. The tulle and the glittering top all became part of the night look, while the suit she was wearing became part of the day look. Keeping up with the pink theme of the movie, she also decided to do this look in the same colour. It is so brilliantly recreated. There is something so amazing about the silhouette in this outfit that makes her look like a doll.
Totally Hair
It doesn’t matter wherever this artist is. She will be serving a Barbie doll look. While there are many versions of this doll, this one is definitely a niche that this actor decided to bring forward through her outfits. At the event in Mexico, she was seen wearing this 70s era bright coloured dress referencing the Totally hair doll, which had long curly hair, which this image also shows. The best thing is the attention to detail because they have also managed to recreate the earrings.
Earring Magic
There is something about injecting modernity in terms of the construction and the execution but still keeping the base of the outfit the same. The corset is a pretty modern trend, and the sheer top underneath is definitely a 2023 vibe, but it still takes the artist right back to the era of the doll. The chain belt and the long earrings, the main reference to the doll, are the main attraction, but the slight changes make the outfit iconic.
Sparkling, Pink and Fabulous
The Very First Barbie
This was at the beginning of the press tour when it just seemed like she might be referencing the old dolls, but it could have been attributed as a coincidence. This is still one of those subtle nods at the Barbies, even though they are incredibly similar to the source material. We could have still brushed this off as the normal references that would continue through the press tour. The fact the outfits after this one only got more and more intense shows how the artist is incredibly proud of this film.
She started the press tour with this, and it already seemed like the audience won. While she already featured a similar look in the teaser of the movie, it seemed like this was just a call-back to that moment instead of a full-on press tour filled with easter eggs to the Barbies of the eras. It is amazing to see that she adapted the swimsuit to a wonderfully shaped neckline and converted the bottom into a bodycon that fits her frame just as well as the suit did the Barbie. This Margot Robbie Barbie dress was just the beginning of the lore that would consume audiences.
Special Mention
Everyone has been taking cues from Robbie, but Nicki Minaj decided to deliver her vibe to the premiere in the best way possible. There is something so self-aware about the choice to dress as a diva because this artist just crushes it when it comes to music. This grey outfit is definitely a slight nod as opposed to a complete dedication to the doll, but the black belt and the draping at the centre with a mid-section cut-off is so brilliantly iconic that it must be noted. The artist managed to make the classiest decision with this source material.
Barbie will be releasing in theatres on July 21, 2023.
