Loving Adults Review: Dar Salim, Sonja Richter is Absolutely Twisted

Loving Adults (Kærlighed for voksne) is a Danish crime-thriller movie directed by Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg and stars Dar Salim, Sonja Richter and Sus Wilkins, alongside other cast members. The movie has a runtime of 105 minutes and is based on the book Till Death Do Us Part by Anna Ekberg.

Netflix describes the movie as:

The thin line between love and hate turns deadly when a wife discovers her husband’s affair — and they both take extreme measures to get what they want.

– Loving Adults Review Does Not Contain Spoilers –

Loving Adults is primarily a crime thriller that describes the background of a crime that starts the movie off. From the first minute of the movie, you’ll feel some sort of way for the cowardice that you are subjected to. However, there’s a certain tension that builds from that moment because although you feel like it’s pretty cut and dry, you are told that there might be more to the story than meets the eye.

Christian is like the scum that you find at the bottom of a garbage truck. Leonora, on the other hand, bears the brunt of all the decisions that they have made throughout their lives as the rug is swept out from underneath her feet. You feel bad for her, it’s honestly a scary notion to think about.

Loving Adults

Unfortunately, for the greater part of the runtime, Loving Adults makes you follow Christian, who is really a horrendous person to follow. It’s like the show wants you to feel some sort of sympathy for the cheater because the other person might be crazier than the other. However, the biggest takeaway from the movie is that if you F around, you’re going to find out sooner or later.

Leonora, meanwhile, is quite the hothead. You understand her rage, but man, she’s scary when she’s poked. Interestingly, all of this is speculation. It might or might not be the truth, at least at first. So, did it happen as the detective suspects, or is there more to the story? That will come out only when you watch the story.

Loving Adults, however, delivers a shocking twist in the middle that you might be able to figure out before it happens but still makes the revelation rather unnerving. As the dead bedroom hides many strange secrets in every corner, more and more things come to light that make you wonder whether your loyalties lie in the correct place. (They sorta do, but you know)

The chilling twists and turns are things that you won’t be able to believe are actually happening in front of you. But are there people like this out there? Maybe there are. It’s interesting how both of these odd characters bring up their son at every point as if that should stop the other person from doing the next terrible thing. It’s simply grotesque and horrible to think about, but more than that, it is chilling to think how calm and collected everyone is.

Loving Adults

Personally, the story creates a really chilling atmosphere where you constantly ask yourself whether what you’re watching actually happened or not. You constantly doubt and question, and the movie reminds you that what you’re watching might not exactly be the truth of the matter. Throughout the runtime, we hear this unreliable narration, but in the back of your mind, there’s always a chance that this might be true… or is it someone’s imagination?

As much as Loving Adults makes this a thrilling aspect, it also cheapens the thrills some times dampens because you don’t exactly know if it’s true or not. Plus, the movie drags on and on as it introduces one shocking twist after another. After a point, you just wonder what the point is in doing all of this, as the movie reminds you in more ways than one that this certainly wouldn’t be the end of this nightmare.

Dar Salim and Sonja Richter do an excellent job in this sordid tale. Richter, especially, is just so chilling that you would be remiss wondering how it all came to be this way.

Summing Up: Loving Adults

Loving Adults is a crazy and twisted movie that leaves you feeling some kind of way. Is it true or just someone’s figment of imagination – the question lingers as you watch the last few minutes of the movie, and maybe, that’s what makes it so darn watchable!
