Love to Hate You Trailer Breakdown

Nam Kang-ho is an actor and he is great at it. Sweeping awards, getting clout and romancing women on screen, certainly this would mean that he enjoys their company, right? Wrong! He cannot stand other women and isn’t looking forward to doing that anytime soon. On the other hand, Yeo Mi-ran is a lawyer working in the entertainment industry and similarly, she has no interest in dealing with romance anytime soon. Maybe because it is difficult when she decides to compete with them passionately (and win).

Cis-Straight men truly scrape the barrel of their problems and Mi-ran feels the exact same way. Trying to put Kang-ho in his place, she decides to take him on and end his career by getting dirt on him. She makes a plan to seduce him so that she can infiltrate his life and steal whatever filthy secrets he must be hiding. His idea revolves around getting her to fall in love with him just so he can break her heart.

However, Kang-ho’s friend/assistant proposes that the two of them get together in a fake relationship for three months, even going as far as procuring a fake relationship contract to do the same. Eventually, the two warn each other to not fall in love with the other and make the ‘relationship’ public. Getting caught in photographs, Kang-ho’s entire fandom is heartbroken and things are not going well for Mi-ran.

She is warned that things might get ugly and she might get hurt. Even her friends seem to think similarly and warn her that the consequences of doing something like this may end with her becoming a laughingstock in the community. While the next few shots show the protagonists exploring the avenues their fake relationship can take them to, Kang-ho’s friend hopes that this is not a temporary thing.

For all the air of petulance that Kang-ho has, his friend truly believes that he is lonely and needs some companion in life, romantic, preferably. The next few shots show how Mi-ran has been troubled by this development and she isn’t in control of the situation as she thought she was. But we do see her explaining that she has always been wary of men and is assumed that she will continue to be that way during this relationship.

Kang-ho is also assured that he is always careful around women and wouldn’t do something stupid. However, like every good romance, there is tension between the two protagonists. Even though they initially started by hating each other, there is a surety that they will fall in love with each other. After some deep denial on both sides, there is an inkling that the two people get together in real life to test whether the relationship would work or not. When Mi-ran quits, she will continue dating Kang-ho with confidence.

And so the trailer comes to an end, but there are actually some interesting questions that arise, like why does Kang-ho despise women so much? Is this aversion from a past relationship that ended badly? How will Mi-ran take the reins in this relationship? And finally why is Kang-ho’s friend so hell-bent on getting him together with someone?
