Love Take Two Episode 5 Recap

The episode picks up after last week, when Moon-hee approached Ji-an and Hyo-ri. She claims to be her mother, but Ji-an tells her that her mother is dead. We see a young Ji-an getting the call from the police years ago, and, in the present, she is left disturbed by the sudden reappearance of this unwanted guest. Either way, the family has a warm morning in their new home, and she eventually goes out to help Bo-hyeon at the farm. Elsewhere, Ji-an and Jeong-seok have a playful moment as he goes to deliver the invoice for his services, as they tease him about being paid.

When they sit down for a meal together, Moon-hee suddenly barges into the house and starts to push her daughter around, and Ji-an, left shocked and confused, is unable to talk back and instead walks away. The audience gets a heartbreaking scene of Ji-an finding herself alone in school without her mother, not being able to do things because of her mother’s absence. It’s a painful reminder, but when Moon-hee accidentally sets a small fire in the kitchen, Ji-an has had enough and lashes out at her to leave.

Ji-an and Hyo-ri get into a fight afterwards while Jeong-seok walks Moon-hee back to her house. Thinking back to his younger days when he had to help a young Ji-an out with her mother, he decides to do something to help his old friend out. Meanwhile, Hyo-ri opens up to Bo-hyeon about her feelings regarding Ji-an’s pain. She tells him that she feels bad for not being able to help her despite seeing how it’s affecting her.

The next morning, Jeong-seok brings in a repairman to check the gas lines, and the villagers also arrive to help Ji-an out, while Bo-hyeon takes Hyo-ri out to a beautiful spot in the village from where she can see the entire area and the stars twinkling above. He opens up about his heartbreak of not having a mother, and Hyo-ri tells him about Ji-an and her childhood friend’s story and how she ended up with Ji-an. Meanwhile, Jeong-seok gifts Ji-an a bike and tells her to finally live her life and be herself.

Hyo-ri and Ji-an make up that night after spending some time apart, having calmed down and understood each other’s perspectives better. Meanwhile, Tae-oh reaches out to his mother to try and make amends, but she refuses to acknowledge him, while Bo-hyeon wonders whether they have been missing their mothers or hating them. As Hyo-ri and Ji-an have a sweet moment taking photos, though, she suddenly falls unconscious while Bo-hyeon’s mother arrives at his doorstep.

Love Take Two Episode 5 Review

What an interesting turn of events for everyone this episode. I was a little sceptical last week after Moon-hee arrived because it felt a little forced. However, with no one knowing whether or not she’s actually Ji-an’s mother, it’s turning out to be an interesting twist. Regardless of how old we are, we all need to be loved and cherished, and no one does that better than our mothers. The showcase of that emotion is spot-on, and it’s difficult not to relate to Ji-an’s circumstances. I think Hyo-ri can come off as annoying, but the explanation they give is well-done and very relatable.

Of course, this week, I am sceptical of Bo-hyeon’s mother’s return and feel like it’s going to be forced. What are the odds of all the mothers coming back into everyone’s lives at the same time? Maybe there’s an explanation, but from the sneak peek, it seems like they will be leaning into that heavily. Only time will tell what complications arise from this new development!
