Locke and Key Season 3 Ending Explained

In Locke and Key Season 3, we see Captain Gideon act as the main villain. Even after obtaining all the keys from the Lockes, he is unable to open the demonic portal completely which means there is another key out there somewhere that he does not possess. Soon enough, after a series of turbulent incidents, we find out that there is another key that lies inside the head of Gordie Shaw (a new character introduced this very season, on the school board and an old friend of Rendell’s crowd who always felt left out).

Ellie is the only one who knows the location of the key inside Gordie’s head and thus, Gideon takes her to Gordie’s house to retrieve the key. Unfortunately, Gideon stabs Gordie and Ellie and he moves inside Gordie’s head in search of the key. Ellie somehow manages to trap Gideon in the place where Gordie keeps his fears and tries to find a way out of Gordie’s head.

Meanwhile, the kids- Rufus, Tyler, and Kinsey rush to Gordie’s house only to find him in a dying state. They are accompanied by Sam Lesser in the body of Bolton, an echo. Rufus calls for medical help as Tyler, Kinsey and Sam go inside Gordie’s head to help out Ellie. While, in the head, they are united with Ellie and try to find the last key- the Creation Key that is capable to bring any object to life that is drawn using it. They are chased by Gideon inside Gordie’s head as they look for the last key.

Sam manages to distract Gideon and buy the group sometimes as Kinsey retrieves the key after following the whispers. In real life, Gordie is taken by the paramedics, who try to save him. As Gordie slowly starts to die, Tyler, Ellie and Kinsey locked inside his head seem to get more lost. However, Gordie somehow finds a way to direct them out, which Gideon too follows after he disengages himself from Sam’s trap. All four are able to make out and Sam dies inside Gordie’s head as Gordie takes his last breath.

In the real world, police have arrived at Gordie’s house and are looking for the person who has stabbed Gordie. They suspect Rufus and eventually, Ellie, Kinsey and Tyler when they come out with bloody hands. Later, with the arrival of Gideon, the police officers died trying to shoot him down. Tyler and Kinsey run with the key to the Keyhouse and Gideon chase him with all his might.

At Keyhouse, Bode and Nina are kept waiting as they try every trick in the book to retrieve the keys from the magical harlequin chest in which Gideon has locked them but, they are not successful. Ultimately, when Tyler and Kinsey make it to the house before Gideon, they decide to take the keys are lure Gideon into the Well House which will destroy him. But, ultimately Gideon overpowers them, breaking the Well House altogether.

Kinsey kicks her brains and realizes that they can use the Creation Key to make a window on the chest to get hold of the Alpha Key that will kill Gideon. Using magic on magic, the Lockes are successful in getting the Alpha Key. However, an angry Gideon makes an attack on Kinsey and tries to throw her inside the portal. But before he can, Kinsey pierces him with the Alpha Key and pushes him down the demon hole. With Gideon gone, it is a relief for the Lockes.

Although Gideon’s death is not all that the Lockes notice. Tyler suggests the idea that when a key falls inside the portal, it grows smaller because when Gideon fell inside the portal with the Alpha Key it reduced in size. He tosses the Head Key to verify the theory, much to Bode’s annoyance and it actually turns out to be true. The family get into a discussion about sacrificing the keys to close the portal once and for all. However, Bode is quite against it.

When asked what Bode wants, the youngest Locke replies that he wants to use the Timeshift Key to meet his father, Rendell Locke for one last time. The family agrees and travels back in time to meet Rendell. They spend some wholesome time as a family once again before Nina, Tyler, Kinsey and Bode return to the present time. Thereafter, the memory key is used on Kinsey and Bode so they never forget about the magic and then, Lockes toss the keys into the portal one by one, ultimately closing it forever.
