Flowers in Sand Episode 5 Recap
The episode starts with a flashback of Do-sik and Baek-du where the two of them played football when they were kids. However, Baek-du hits her directly with a ball, which leaves her with a bleeding nose. The action leaves everyone confused, and the scene changes to the present Baek-du. He wakes up and gets ready to go somewhere early in the morning.
Baek-du arrives at the stadium where the ssireum team practices, and he announces in front of everyone that he will be returning to the team. The coach takes him by the ear and drags him inside the room to confirm whether he is serious about his decision or not. He says that he is serious about joining the team back, and he will work hard this time around.
However, Baek-du recalls his conversation with Do-sik where he reveals to her that he has figured out that the lady he met that day was not her mother-in-law. He said that she was the detective he saw on television when he was younger and it was impossible for her to have a son as old as Do-sik’s husband. She then reveals that she is a cop and is undercover to figure out the recent death case. She also says that she is unmarried and she was only pretending for the mission.
Meanwhile, during the training, Do-sik thinks to herself that Baek-du is very unpredictable. Later, while Baek-du is practising, Jin-su comes over and scolds him for being incorrect with his moves. On the other hand, Hyeon-uk becomes more curious about the name “Do-sik” that he has been hearing from many people in the town and decided to find out more about the person.
The news of the coach’s death is shown in the news, which leaves everyone confused and suspicious. The next day, in the locker room, the team starts gossiping about a rumour that is spreading around. Allegedly, the match between Dong-Seok and Baek-du was fixed by the coach so he could win some money and pay off his debt. However, Dong-seok did not follow the coach’s instructions and won the match against Baek-du.
Do-sik also becomes suspicious of the coach as well so she decides to investigate the vents. Baek-du joins her as well in the journey to meet up with Dong-seok. After they meet Dong-seok they ask him if the match was fixed, and he reveals that the coach had asked him to lose the match against Baek-du, but he did not listen, which leaves him with guilt. Baek-du ensures him that it was not his fault and that the coach was not supposed to drag him into the situation.
The two of them return to town after talking to Dong-seok. Do-sik scolds Baek-du for being too good for the world and caring about other people a lot. However, he reveals in the end that he joined the team back because Do-sik asked him to, and the episode ends on that note.
