Liaison Trailer: Past and Future Collide in a Crime Fueled Action Plot

Apple TV+ does not fail, and this new series release shows exactly that. The Liaison trailer shows a gritty and dramatic London losing its footing with the cyberattacks taking place in the country. This show will star Vincent Cassel, Eva Green, Peter Mullan, Gerard Lanvin, Daniel Francis, Stanislas Merhar, Irene Jacob, Laetitia Eido, Eriq Ebouaney, Bukky Bakray and Thierry Fremont, alongside other cast members. It is written by Virginie Brac and directed by Stephen Hopkins.

The streaming platform’s synopsis reads, “Vincent Cassel and Eva Green star as agents—and former lovers—who must work together to combat international cyberattacks threatening the UK while also confronting the buried secrets of their destructive relationship.” Liaison features a British agent trying to figure out what is going on with the cyber attacks in the country. It is intermingled with French and English, giving it a more fleshed-out realistic take on crime and violence in the west.

Starting off, the trailer shows one of the government members sharing the news that the UK is under a barrage of cyberattacks. When the barriers holding the Thames fail, the city gets flooded severely. One of the worst ones in the past century. Fortunately, intelligence agencies have a suspect. Unfortunately for Eva Green’s character, she used to know him before.

People operating the barriers maintain that someone got into the system, and that is the person everyone is looking for, the person carrying out these cyberattacks in the country. Additionally, they are convinced that this is some kind of terrorist plot hatching. The moment Eva Green’s character sees the suspect, we are shown glimpses of their life together.

There are photographs she is looking at that show how close they were as lovers and how the past is catching up to her now. She even meets their primary suspect, chatting and catching him up on her life. Green’s character explains how she has been seeing someone for five years, and their relationship is at an emotional place where they’re ready to get married.

Although the suspect has no qualms about reminding her of her sordid past, he questions whether the new boyfriend knows anything about it. Already, this puts the male protagonist on the top currently and her in a vulnerable position. However, it is soon found out that the man isn’t the person behind the attack, and they still have someone to look for.

The first attack was just the beginning, a warning, and Eva Green’s character is bombarded with questions if they can trust him or not. She has seemingly done something tragic to him, and it could come back to ruin their plans of catching this cyberattacker. The future is being grappled with, but the past has come running after her. Things are getting worse in the UK and they must catch this saboteur soon before the city falls tragically.

Liaison promises some steady action sequences, gun violence, romantic angst and drama that will carry over multiple episodes. The show promises Eva Green a role that we have seen her in before and missed, especially after the success of Bond. Perhaps audiences will find out what she has done to the male protagonist, why his entrance is suddenly a red flag and whether the government will ever trust their criminal informer.
