Law and the City Episode 12 Review: All’s Well That Ends Well

Law and the City Episode 12 sees every character making a life-changing decision that ultimately determines the course of their future. These choices bring long-buried aspirations to light, setting the stage for dramatic new beginnings.

This episode opens with Joo-hyung and Moon-jung attending the funeral of Mr Park and realising how much of a good man he was. He really helped people out, and everyone is very thankful towards him. On the other hand, Chang-won enters his boss’s office, clearly claims that he is quitting, and gives his boss a week to replace him. Plus, Sang-ki finally musters the courage to go to Hyung-min and thank her for supporting him through her foundation. Here, he also asks her to help someone else out.

Right past this, after Joo-hyung was told by his boss to drop Mr Park’s case, he feels guilty towards the old man. Previously, even though he was bothered by ruthlessly winning cases, he managed to cope with the discomfort, but now, it seems he is not willing to accept it anymore. We also see Hee-ji sharing a touching moment with Sung-ja, who receives a 3-year imprisonment, which will start after five years. At dinner, Chang-won finally tells his friends about his decision to quit, and he starts a chain reaction of confessions. Like him, one by one, everyone starts to talk about their recent professional changes.

Later, Hee-ji confesses to Joo-hyung how she wants to go for a job change as well, where she plans to be a public defender. At the interview, Moon-jung has a change of heart and she decides to quit because she realises how much she likes litigation and her current job. She also has a very heartfelt moment with her husband, as she thanked him for his support.  Moon-jung then starts looking for temporary workers who would be able to replace her for the time being.

Hee-ji is in a different kind of problem where she gets a case of a sexual offender who immediately agrees to his charges. Now, she is in a moral dilemma whether she should defend her client or let him face charges, which she cannot do because she has taken his case. But a different kind of situation arises when somebody complains about the Dandelion Scholarship Foundation that Miss Kang heads. Later, at his farewell dinner, Sang-ki and Ryoo-jin face a kind of romantic situation, but they don’t really confess to each other. Hilariously, their love story does not end at the drinking party.

Towards the last half of this episode, we see Joo-hyung and Moon-jung coming down to see off their friends who are leaving for better opportunities. The last straw comes from Joo-hyung, who also quits because he wants to take cases that he wishes himself and doesn’t want to listen to his boss anymore. The ending was a lot more earnest because the friends finally meet again in their new respective roles, and the mood becomes lighthearted between them.

Law and the City Episode 12 Review

I really liked today’s episode because towards the end everyone lived the way they wanted and still stayed in touch, showcasing a very realistic portrayal of work-life friendship. Every character managed to find their own happiness, signalling that everything ultimately turns out fine. It was a warm and pleasing conclusion that also gives us hope that we are never too old to dream big.
