-Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 2 Review Contains Spoilers-
The episode started with Karan Johar giving a standing ovation to Sunny Deol for achieving such a historic success of Gadar 2 after such a long time, and we agree with that. It’s truly a delight to see the ’90s leading angry young man back on the silver screen! The movie, which had a massive box office collection back in 2001, has achieved even greater success this time around. He even expressed that he knew the movie would perform well, but he never expected it to do this well. And they even gave the credit for the success of the film to her daughter-in-law as they said she came with all the Lakshmi and good luck to the family.
Sunny also disclosed that the movie’s release date coincided with the release of OMG 2. He even approached Akshay Kumar, requesting him to consider adjusting the dates to ensure his movie had a chance for a proper theatrical screening. Unfortunately, Akshay couldn’t make the adjustment, as it was beyond his control. Karan added that despite both movies being released simultaneously, they both enjoyed success at the box office.

Furthermore, when Karan asked Bobby about his journey, he recounted a period when he had nearly lost faith in himself, spending his days in idle pursuits. However, a pivotal moment occurred when his son questioned his mother about being the sole breadwinner and why Bobby was consistently at home. This prompted Bobby to recognize that he didn’t want his children to perceive him in this light. Subsequently, he took the initiative to approach producers and directors for opportunities. He candidly shared that he encountered initial setbacks, including an attempt to collaborate with Karan, who unfortunately couldn’t provide him with any work either.
He also mentioned that Salman Khan shared with him an insightful piece of advice from his own career struggles. When Salman was facing a downturn, he turned to the support of Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dutt. So, when Bobby sought Salman’s guidance, he graciously offered him the opportunity in Race 3, which marked a turning point in Bobby’s career. This pivotal role paved the way for him to secure notable OTT projects such as Aashram, Love Hostel, and Class of 83, ultimately showcasing his undeniable talent as an actor.

Karan also asked them a question about nepotism and how they deal with it. Sunny Deol responded by saying, ‘Why do parents work if they can’t provide for their children? In movies, everyone has their own journey.’ He mentioned that even for him, it took 22 years to achieve a massive hit, and if nepotism truly worked, he would have found success earlier. Bobby also echoed similar sentiments, stating that he had to struggle a lot to get roles because people are hesitant to sign you unless you can offer something in return. In the end, it’s a business.
Discussing their forthcoming releases, Karan mentioned that Bobby is portraying a compelling villain in his upcoming film Animal alongside Ranbir Kapoor. Bobby amusingly noted that on Wikipedia, he’s playfully referred to as ‘Lord Bobby’ in the movie’s description. Sunny Deol also shared insights about his upcoming venture Lahore 1947, which is being produced by none other than Aamir Khan.

The highlight of the show was when a video featuring the Deol family was displayed on screen. Dharmendra, Karan, Rajveer, and Aryaman Deol were seen extending their best wishes to their sons and fathers. The funniest moments which made it more exquisite rather than saucy are when Dharmendra shares that Bobby is little Chalu (naughty), whereas Sunny is a good boy, and the other one is when Karan shares that his father Sunny loves to collect teddy bears wherever he goes. To make it more humorous, he also shares that Sunny likes to keep those teddy bears organised at home.
They played two games. The first one was about Dharmendra Deol’s Filmography quiz to check who knew it better, and we could see that both sons were quite knowledgeable about their father’s work as they knew each and every movie. Just by one point, Bobby Deol won the hamper for the quiz.
Rapid Fire Round
The round was a little juicy this time, as a few questions could lead to controversy. When Karan asked Sunny Deol about one thing he likes and dislikes about the actor, he was first asked about Shah Rukh Khan. Sunny said that he liked how hardworking Shah Rukh is but disliked how he’s turned actors into commodities. When asked about Akshay Kumar, he mentioned that he liked how disciplined he is but disliked how he does too many movies every year. As for Salman Khan, Sunny expressed admiration for his big heart but mentioned that he disliked how he was always trying to make everyone a bodybuilder. The question about Bobby Deol wasn’t as engaging.
The audience votes revealed that Sunny Deol won the round with 52% of the votes, while Bobby received 48%. Both brothers achieved something from the show, and the hamper was handed over to Sunny Deol. In the end, everyone headed home.

Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 2 Recap and Review: Final Thoughts
I wouldn’t say it was the best episode, but it was good to see the Deol brothers on the Koffee couch, at least. It offered an intimate glimpse into the lives and careers of the talented actor duo. Sunny’s candid revelations about his monumental success in Gadar 2 and Bobby’s journey to the resurgence in the industry were both inspiring and heartwarming. Their perspective on nepotism provided valuable insights into the complexities of the film business.
The episode was filled with moments of laughter and affection, especially the endearing Deol family video. The rapid-fire round added an extra dash of spice, showcasing the brothers’ candid opinions. With Sunny emerging as the winner, it was a good episode that left viewers entertained. However, it felt like this year, Karan is trying to play it safe, staying away from controversy and keeping the show more about the people and less about gossip.
